Rodrigues walks
From Gravier to Pointe Coton
This is one of the most popular hikes on Rodrigues. Easy, family-friendly and not very long, this route runs along much of the east coast of Rodrigues. You will encounter a succession of coves and sandy beaches, each as beautiful as the next. It's the perfect opportunity to take a dip. This hike offers beautiful views of the region. It is easy to see why Rodrigues is nicknamed "the Pearl of the Mascarene Islands".
From Port Mathurin to Mont Lubin
Port Mathurin, the "capital of Rodrigues", is a charming little town with a covered market that is worth visiting on Saturday mornings. Rue Mamzelle Julia is bustling with people and shops. A short distance from Port Mathurin, on the hilltop, stands a cross symbolising the year 2000. From Port Mathurin, a trail leads to Mont Lubin through a beautiful forest with magnificent trees.
Montagne Bois Noir, Port Sud Est and Gravier circular loop
From Montagne Bois Noir, there is an unmarked trail leading down to Port Sud-Est. Unusual places, varied vegetation, and a constant eye on the trail so as not to stray too far from our destination. The walk takes you through pastures with cows and pigs, between pandanus trees and other varieties of trees and plants. A pretty little cardinal accompanies us for a good part of the way, a faithful travelling companion.
From Montagne Bois Noir to Mont Limon
This hike to Mont Limon takes you to the highest point on Rodrigues. Based in Montagne Bois Noir, the start is ideal: the hike is not very difficult, but it allows you to fully immerse yourself in the Rodrigues atmosphere. Here, life flows peacefully: unhurried mornings and gentle afternoons.Nature is lush and animals — cows, goats, pigs, chickens and dogs — live almost freely, giving the island an authentic, rural charm. The table d'hôte at the starting point is located at an altitude of 280 metres, not far from Mont Lubin, a strategic location on the island. This is where all the buses connecting the four corners of Rodrigues meet.
