The walk begins with a steep climb of over 10 per cent… and this won’t be the only one to put walkers to the test.
The surprise of the day: Kaul, the foundations of the unfinished sanatorium and the sculptures installed there as part of the European Sculpture and Peace Trail project.
The return journey to the starting point is easy and free: a train every 30 minutes with a connection at Kautenbach.
Car parks are also free near both stations: 193 spaces in Wiltz and 78 in Drauffelt, according to the Luxembourg Railways website.
Signposted by the CFL in both directions as part of the ‘Hike & Rail’ scheme, this walk starts from Drauffelt. It offers a wonderful variety of panoramic views of this part of the Luxembourg Ardennes, as well as sections through woodland and villages, including Enscherange, Knaphoscheid, Eschweiler, Erpeldange and Weidingen.
