Description of the walk

Parking on the square at the entrance to Duerfstrooss.

(S/E) With your back to the car park entrance, turn left and follow the Clerve river.

Leave the bridge on your right and turn left. At the road, turn right. In the bend, take the passage closed to all vehicles on your left and go up. At the intersection, continue straight ahead. At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead again. The road turns left. Walk to the junction with another road.

(1) Continue straight ahead on the stony path. At the property gate, turn right and climb uphill. Just before the road, take the path on your left and climb up to the road.

(2) Go up the road and walk to the left along the safety rail. At the end of the road, take the path on your left that goes up the embankment. Go up and come out to the right of the antenna. Continue straight ahead on the road until you reach the warehouse.

(3) Turn right, walk past the building and then enter the forest. Further on, ignore the forest path on your left and continue on the main path. Walk to the entrance of a meadow and take the path on the left. Leave the woods and walk along another meadow.

(4) Look for a hairpin bend on your left; you will take this after the viewpoint. Continue along the meadow. Go downhill and, before the house, take the path on the left. Discover the viewpoint over Shuttbourg Castle.

Retrace your steps, walk along the meadow again and continue to the fork.

(4) Turn right. Descend onto the main path, ignoring the paths branching off to either side. At the bottom, you will find the Clerve. At the road, turn right. Pass in front of a beautiful property, which is the old Schuttbourg mill. Walk along the leat for a while, then the road veers away from it. Walk to the crossroads.

(5) Continue straight ahead on the road, which is now a cycle path. Quickly take a path on the left towards Schuttbourg. At the top, you will find the entrance to Schuttbourg Castle.

(6) With your back to the castle entrance, take the path on the right. Go downhill, keep to the right at the bottom and cross the Krepbaach stream. At the wide path, turn right. Further on, keep to the right and cross the wooden bridge. Continue downhill, now on your left. At the road, which is only used by bicycles, continue to the right. Look for a path on your left at the end of the bend.

(7) Go down to the left and, at the bottom, turn left. Cross over the stream and continue along the path near the property gate. Cross a pontoon and go up. At the fork (not on OSM), continue to the right until you reach a hairpin bend.

No markings

(8) Take the hairpin turn to the left. Climb to the highest point and then descend. Take the stairs and descend to the road. Cross carefully and continue along the wide path opposite. Climb for a little over 400 m. The main path turns sharply to the right. Continue climbing to a fairly steep path on your left.

(9) Turn left and, at the top, continue left. Keep climbing. Turn around from time to time and try to spot Schuttbourg Castle. Enter the forest, then exit the woods and enjoy the view of the other side of the valley. Walk to an intersection with another path.

(10) Turn right. At the viewpoint, climb up to enjoy a superb panorama. Continue along the path and emerge from under the trees. Carefully descend onto the rocks on the ground. Descend for about 1 km and discover, on your right, views of the Clerve Valley and, in the distance, Schuttburg Castle, the paragliding launch site, the Ueweschleid Viewpoint and, finally, the Bomm Viewpoint. Finish the descent at the road.

(11) Turn right and, at the bend in the road, turn left. At the entrance to the meadow, keep to your right. Descend the path to the road. At the bottom, turn left and follow the road, taking care. Enter the built-up area and, before the house on your right, turn right. Descend to the Clerve river and follow it. At the bridge, turn left and cross it. Turn left immediately after crossing the bridge.

No markings

Follow the Clerve on the other bank and return to the car park. (S/E)

(6) Schuttbourg Castle: private, not open to visitors. The castle is first mentioned in a document from 1404 under the name "Schudeburg". There has never been a noble family bearing the name Schuttbourg, as was the case for the much more important castles of Clervaux, Vianden and Bourscheid.

Three viewpoints in a row between (10 and 11): Ueweschleid, take-off point for paragliding, and Bomm.

Great walk, precise route. Very physically demanding due to the significant elevation changes. Congratulations to the route planner.

A magnificent route on Thursday, 14 September. The morning mist prevented us from seeing Kautenbach when we left at around 9 a.m., but on our return at around noon, the sun had broken through and the views were superb. Thank you.
