From Chassagnes to Les Sauces via La Brousse

You will discover two landscapes. The walk starts in Chassagnes, crosses part of Chaliergues (the Paulhaguet basin), an area dedicated to agriculture, then climbs gradually through the woods, passing through hamlets that are mostly restored and inhabited.

Description of the walk

The walk starts in the village of Chassagnes. Parking is available behind the town hall, where a car park has been provided. If you need to park more than four or five cars, you can park near the chapel located on the D22.

The walk does not necessarily follow the marked PR® paths.

(S/E) Join the D22. Pass the chapel on your right and the castle entrance on your left, and follow the main road with care until you reach the three-way junction by the water tower.

(1) Leave the D22 and take the road on the right until the next fork. Ignore the road on the right and continue straight on towards Le Monteil. Walk to the junction at the edge of the hamlet.

(2) Take the road on the left towards La Brousse. You will reach a three-way junction.

(3) Ignore the road on the right and take the one on the left, then turn right to cross the hamlet and reach a junction.

(4) Go straight on along the forest track, enter the woods and arrive at a crossroads.

(5) Continue straight ahead on the forest track until the next junction.

(6) Ignore the path on the left and stay on the forest track, passing under a power line.

(7) Leave the track and take the path on the left which loops back towards the power line, then veers right to follow it before passing underneath and continuing alongside it.

(8) Turn left and head towards the Fridière junction, ignoring the various paths on the left.

(9) Continue to the right and join the D22. Cross it carefully and head towards the hamlet of Les Sauces. Leave the hamlet on your right.

(10) At the junction, take the road on the right, walk for about fifty metres, then turn left to follow a wide path that heads back towards Chassagnes. You’ll reach the tarmac road again at the castle and the church.

(11) Turn left and head for the car park behind the town hall. (S/E).

A lovely walk: beautiful scenery and views...
It’s a shame that almost half the route is on tarmac.
And a slight hesitation at Les Sauces to spot the grassy path leading down to Chassagnes.
