Circular Étang de Lavaux in Saint-Préjet-Armandon

Starting from the Lavaux Pond (the pond is a former clay quarry), the route crosses pastures and fields and then reaches the woods on the heights of Saint-Préjet-Armandon.
This route passes through villages with houses built from basalt stones from a distant volcanic period. Take the time to wander through the villages and notice the old workshops of blacksmiths and carpenters, and the communal ovens. Listen carefully and you may hear the sound of a hammer on an anvil or a carpenter's saw... These villages, once bustling with activity, are now quiet.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park near the Lavaux pond.

(S/E) From the car park, follow the wide track until you reach a crossroads.

(1) Turn left, then right, cross the road carefully and keep to the right towards Gaillardon. Pass the hamlet and continue to the next crossroads.

(2) Turn right (Route du Chaussé) and head towards the first houses in La Gougeat.

(3) At the crossroads with the fountain, turn left and continue until the road bends to the right.

(4) Continue straight ahead on the path, ignore the path on the left and continue on the track through the woods, which descends to the Ruisseau des Bounes stream.

(5) Cross it, go back up and arrive at the entrance to Cubelles.

(6) Turn right (Route de la Croix) towards Saint-Préjet-Armandon. Pass the hamlet of Tronchère and the Ruisseau des Bounes stream again. Cross the village and, at the crossroads by the church, take the D207 for just under 100 metres and find a path on the right.

(7) Follow this path, cross a stream, ignore the D207 on your left and you will come to a road.

(8) Turn right (Chemin des Vignes) and head towards the first houses in Le Cougeat.

(4) Turn left and cross the village.

(3) At the crossroads with the fountain, continue straight ahead along the street and reach the crossroads you passed earlier.

(1) Cross carefully and, following the same route as on the way there, return to the car park near the pond (S/E).

Slight hesitation at point 8: the description is not very clear. The route on the map is essential at this point.
Beautiful scenery.
