Description of the walk

In Bacou, parking is available in front of the restaurant "Le Matagot", situated on the D4 road between Paulhaguet and La Chaise-Dieu.

NB: do not rely on the existing signposts, as the route does not always follow them.

(S/E) Cross the bridge over the Senouire and take the small road on the left that runs alongside the river. Pass through Barbanson.

(1) Leave the return path on your left and continue to the next three-way junction.

(2) Head left to stay as close as possible to the river, cross the bridge over the Ribeyrette and reach the junction with a wider path.

(3) Continue to the left.

(4) Keep to the right at the three-way junction, passing through the hamlets of Lair and Le Bos in turn, and emerge onto the D21.

(5) Follow this road carefully, keeping to the left towards the village of Sainte-Marguerite. Cross the bridge over the Senouire, head up into the village, keeping the church on your left, to reach the D4.

(6) Cross it and take the path opposite, slightly to the left. Climb up to Le Rif, go round the hamlet and return to a three-way junction.

(7) Turn right towards La Vizade.

(8) Keep right at the three-way junction, cross the hamlet and pass under the power line.

(9) Take the first path on the left, which leads to the D4.

(10) Cross the main road carefully, then turn right and follow it until the second path on the left, which leads down to the hamlet of Barbanson. Cross the Senouire via a ford and reach the hamlet.

(1) Continue to the right and retrace the route taken on the way out in the opposite direction to return to the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

(S/E) To the left of the restaurant, a plaque commemorates Henry Ingrand, member of the Resistance and Companion of the Liberation. On the other side of the Senouire downstream from the bridge is the Moulin d'Aurouze. See the website for opening days.
