Description of the walk

Departure between the hamlets of Baraillot and Bretagne in Capian.

(S/E) At the right-angle bend, take the dirt track southwards. Pass between the vineyards and then cross a wood. Continue straight ahead, ignoring any paths you come across. When you reach the end of the path, turn left onto the tarmac road. Pass a pretty stone house on your left and a horse paddock on your right. Continue until you cross a stream.

(1) Cross the main road carefully (cars drive fast) and take the path opposite that goes up into the forest. Do not take the single track (narrow path) on the right, continue until you reach a three-way junction.

(2) Turn right to descend towards the pond.

(3) Walk along the pond through a bamboo alley and continue for about 100 metres.

(4) Turn left into the vineyards, then turn right and then left to cross the vineyards and reach the road.

(5) Turn right and follow the road to the first house.

(6) Continue left at the corner of the house, then continue straight ahead for about 1.5 km. You will reach a larger road (D119) and a stop sign.

(7) Turn right, cross Saint-Ourens and continue on the D119.

(8) At a place called Le Bertaud, turn left towards Plassan. Continue straight ahead until you reach the village of Lestiac. At the entrance to the village, turn left onto Chemin de Mauvert (no motor vehicles allowed) and continue to the junction with Chemin de l'Église.

(9) Turn right and continue straight ahead to take a slightly uphill path. Walk past the church on the right and then in front of a large stone building.

(10) At Chemin de Banastrayre, continue right to the end of the street.

(11) Turn left and then immediately right. In the downward bend to the left, take the small dead-end path that climbs slightly opposite. Pass in front of the foot of the castle and, after the right-hand bend, join the D119 and the entrance to the castle.

(12) Continue left downhill and reach the D10.

(13) Turn right onto the departmental road (watch out for traffic). Reach the edge of a wood on your left at house no. 56.

(14) Continue left on the dirt track that leads into the woods and arrives near the Garonne. Continue on a wooden path and go to the footbridge over the Estey after crossing the bridge over the Garonne.

(15) Take the footbridge and then turn immediately right. Walk along the Estey, pass under a bridge and join a footbridge on the right, where you will see a weeping willow on your right.

(16) Cross the footbridge and immediately turn left, then walk along the Estey until you reach a bridge.

(17) Turn right, then left at the roundabout and walk along the shopping area on your right.

(18) Turn right after the roundabout onto Chemin de Berquin (no entry except for local traffic). Continue straight ahead on this road. At the three-way junction just after Chemin de Couchebouc on the left, continue straight ahead and ignore the right-hand branch that goes downhill.

(19) After a sharp right turn and just before the Stop sign 100 m ahead, turn left onto a path through the vineyards. There is a small stone house at the intersection.
Quickly rejoin the D119, turn left and pass through Saint-Ourens.

(7) Turn left and follow the path you took on the way there to reach the hamlet of Bretagne (S/E).

A pleasant route, sometimes through forests, sometimes through vineyards.
Only a section of about 1 km along the roadside is uninteresting.
