(S/E) From the cemetery car park, take the tarmac path leading up towards the church (closed) and the old cemetery. From there, there is a lovely view of Notre-Dame-de-Gratemoine to the left.
(1) At a hairpin bend to the right, continue straight on (west) along the GR®®. Immediately afterwards (less than 100m), two paths diverge: an unmarked path on the right and theGR®® on the left, which begins to descend slightly (it is this second path that is shown on the map). These two paths run parallel and meet at the Sainte-Brigitte Chapel (excellent acoustics): either one can therefore be taken.
(2) Continue straight on (westwards) after the chapel (B214) on thePR®® (yellow markings, not very visible). Follow this path to the foot of the ruins of Vieux Séranon.
(3) Turn right onto a path that crosses the ruined village and climbs up to a small pass. (westwards, then 100 m further on north-eastwards, then 200 m further on northwards).
(4) Walk about ten metres straight ahead, slightly downhill, to rejoin the B194. Leave theGR®® there and turn right (east) to follow the yellow markings.
Caution: do not take the dangerous path that runs right along the ridge; stay below it on the northern slope.
The route continues through pleasant woodland, alternating between gentle descents and ascents.
(5) Just before the summit, the climb becomes steeper, but there are flat sections where you can catch your breath.
(6) At the summit, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking 360° panorama. The descent, still following the yellow markings to the east, is straightforward. It is steep at the start: be careful, as the rocks can be slippery. The path then veers north-east. You will reach some reservoirs (located to the right of the yellow-marked path, contrary to what is shown on the IGN map).
(7) Take a wider path (still marked in yellow) and reach the D80 road just before the B181 (the B182 was not marked when we were there). Take the road on your left for a few metres until you reach a cross.
(8) Head south along a path (signposted Caille) which runs alongside a pretty property with a chalet for a few metres. Cross the D79, continue along the path and reach Caille without difficulty.
(9) Turn right onto Rue Centrale, pass the post office and follow the road to the B197.
(10) At this marker, turn right onto a wide path. At the next Fork in the road, take the path on the right and continue due west to reach the town hall in Séranon.
(11) From Marker 192 (B192), to the right of the town hall, take the path that climbs slightly, following theGR®®510route westwards (red and white markings) to reach the car park of the new cemetery.
