Crêtes de Belle-Combe

A very beautiful hike in the Monts du Matin. No particular difficulty except for the steep climb in the first part of the circuit. Dogs are strictly prohibited in this area.

Description of the walk

Start in Saint-Martin (Hostun) at the large car park at the entrance to the village.

(S/E) Drive up into the village and head for the church square. Then climb the path on the left of the church and pass below a house.

(1) Turn left onto the road that descends for about 100 metres and then turn right onto the road that climbs uphill. At the first fork, take the wide path on the left: access to the hiking trails.

(2) At La Roche, turn right onto the wide path that climbs uphill. After thethird hairpin bend, you will reach Les Perrets.

(3) Take the path that climbs to the left.

(4) At the mountain, continue straight ahead until you come to a cross path. Take it on the left and descend for a few hundred metres (passing a karstic cave on the right) until you reach a path that climbs up to the right. Then resume the ascent to Crêtes de Belle-Combe.

(5) Turn right for about 50 m to reach a panoramic site overlooking the Isère valley (picnic area available). Then retrace your steps.

(5) Opposite, follow the path that descends into the woods to Col des Bois Communaux.

(6) The hike continues by turning left, but first continue straight ahead for about 50 metres to reach a magnificent panoramic site overlooking the Saint-Jean-en-Royans region and the Vercors. Return the way you came.

(6) Descend to the right until you reach Cabanon.

(7) Follow the path that turns right until you reach Le Lavoir.

(8) Pass the wash house and continue to Le Château.

(9) Continue straight ahead on the small road. At a place called Les Paillonnières, take the path that climbs behind a house. At the crossroads, turn left and climb through the woods. Follow the path to Les Sablons.

(10) Continue straight ahead to reach La Roche

(2) Return to the car park (S/E) by following the same route you took on the way there.

It climbs steeply and then descends over a short, steep section before levelling off. Superb scenery guaranteed!
