This hike starts in Switzerland at the Col du Marchairuz (1,447 m), located between Le Brassus (Switzerland) and Saint-Georges and Aubonne. Park in the hotel restaurant car park.
(S/E) Walk along the building and head south-west. The yellow marker for the walking and snowshoeing route is easy to find. Continue straight ahead.
(1) After about 550 m, turn right and descend quickly for about 100 m. Then turn left at a right angle. Continue straight ahead (south-west) over hill and dale, ending with a steep climb to the La Neuve chalet.
(2) Turn left and head south-east to Crêt de la Neuve (1,493 m) via a short but steep climb.
(3) From the summit, in good weather, there is a view of the entire Lake Geneva basin and the Alps (Bernese Alps and Mont Blanc range).
Descend eastwards on the left side of the Crêt (be careful not to go straight ahead to the east, as there is a very dangerous rocky escarpment) then turn right heading due south. Find the marked path that leads to Petit Pré de Rolle (chalet) on the right.
(4) Turn left at this point and continue almost straight ahead on a path parallel to the outward route but heading north-east. At this point, you can't go wrong as you are in a long valley.
(5) Pass close to the Chalet du Pré de Rolle on your right and continue for about 200 metres to reach an elevation of 1,357 metres.
(6) Turn left and follow the signs for Col du Marchairuz. Follow the very steep climb, which ends gently, before descending to Col du Marchairuz (S/E).
