This route respects the work of the piste groomers in winter. It is a magnificent walk which, from the arrival at the Col de Porte, allows you to admire the view of Lake Geneva and the Alps, including Mont Blanc, for the rest of the route.

Description of the walk

Park at the Dappes car park (on the Couvaloup side), accessible via the D1005 (formerly the RN5).

(S/E) Head towards the ski lift departure point. Turn right and follow the Neiges ski lift, then continue straight ahead up the hill. Head back down towards the Cuvaloup ski lifts.

(1) Head right to follow the Grand Cuvaloup ski lift. Once you reach the forest, continue in the same direction. After the forest, carry on until you reach the vicinity of the “Poêle Chaud” chalet.

(2) Turn left towards the chalet; the hiking trail is signposted and gradually moves away from the ski lift to the left. Climb up to the Col de Porte and enjoy the view.

(3) Turn back a few metres and follow the hiking trail to the left towards La Dôle; it heads south. Follow the ridge along the cliff face of La Dôle and reach the orientation table at the summit.

(4) Head back down to Col de Porte via the same route in the opposite direction.

(3) Do not take the arrival trail but head down following the side of the competition slope, heading north-west. Cross the forest. Then head left to reach the “Couvaloup de Crans” bar-restaurant, where you can take a break if you wish.

(5) Head back towards the ski lifts, follow them and return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Please respect the work of the piste groomers. At night, if you see them, keep your distance – they use winches which are a deadly hazard! Do not walk in the middle of the slopes.

No water or refreshments available except at the Couvaloup restaurant in Crans.
