Description of the walk

Departure from Trayas station. If arriving by car, leave it at Théoule station and take the train to Trayas (2 to 3 minutes).

(S) From Trayas station, cross the railway line and take the path on the left towards Col des Lentisques. At the first intersection, turn right onto the uphill path, do the same a little further up and continue to a fork.

(1) Continue straight ahead and climb up the hillside to reach Col des Lentisques.

(2) Take the path slightly uphill to the right (north-west) behind the fire hydrant (do not follow the track). When you reach a water reservoir, continue along the winding path until you reach the track. Cross over and take the path opposite, slightly to the right, which rejoins the track further up.

(3) Cross and take the path opposite, slightly to the left. Cross the track again and turn north-west. Reach Pic de l'Ours, ignoring the path that descends to the right and leads directly to Col Notre-Dame.

(4) Pass at the foot of the telecommunications tower, follow the fence and reach a fork.

(5) Turn left (south-west) to enjoy the view. Retrace your steps.

(5) Continue straight ahead (north), descending towards Dent de l'Ours. At the crossroads, turn right and continue to Col Notre-Dame.

(6) Once at the pass, head right (northeast) for a few metres, then take the path on the left that leads to the Crête des Petits Trayas. Keep heading north.

(7) Pass directly below the Sommet des Petites Grues and continue to the Sommet des Grosses Grues after a series of descents and ascents.

(8) Continue along the descending path which heads west and winds around several bends before reaching the Col de la Cadière.

(9) At the pass, take the first track on the right which leads to the Col du Trayas junction.

(10) Continue on the left and descend to the Col des Monges.

(11) At the intersection, continue straight ahead for a few metres, then take the first path on the right to Small Pass de l'Autel.

(12) Continue straight down towards Théoule-sur-Mer and join the D6096. Turn left to reach the station (E).

Just one difficult spot on the climb to Pic de l'Ours... The path that cuts across to avoid the climb up the road between markers 3 and 4 was steep and difficult to walk on... We finished the climb up the road. Otherwise, everything was fine

We left Trayas station at 12:40 p.m. and arrived at the port of Théoule around 4:45 p.m., with a nice lunch break at Dent de l'Ours, which offers a beautiful view and spots sheltered from the wind and sun to enjoy a little.

The path is well marked, with clear signage, and presents no difficulties. Beautiful views of the Mediterranean on one side and the Esterel massif on the other, and a varied environment, starting with stony, uneven terrain, continuing through the forest and ending in a slightly more artificial environment (construction tracks, villas). Overall, a very beautiful hike!
The train runs every two hours in Théoule, so remember to check the timetable.

two comments:
- just before point 4, take the path on the left to pass under the telecoms tower to avoid the short detour visible just after on the trail
- when descending towards Théoules on Avenue du Midi, when you are above the port of Théoule, a small path (marked on the map) on the right-hand side of the road allows you to descend and pass directly under the railway tracks and arrive at the beach, where you can have a drink, swim or sunbathe while waiting for the train (the station is then 500 metres away). Thanks to nchaussa for the tip!

Magnificent scenery throughout the hike. A few mimosas still in bloom. Just one small downside: don't count on the trains for the return trip to Le Trayas, as they only run every two hours
hours. Plan to have two vehicles.

a superb hike where you spend most of the time enjoying breathtaking sea views. Worth doing again in winter to enjoy the snow-capped peaks too
I did it by taking the train from Cannes, which is ideal as you don't have to deal with the traffic between Le Trayas and Théoule.
Note that at the beginning, in particular, the paths are very rocky, so good shoes are essential (this is often the case in the Estérel, and especially for this hike)
Towards the end, at the bottom of Avenue du Midi, I recommend turning right and going through the tunnel at the end to reach the beaches. You can dip your feet in the water and then continue to the end of the beach, take the stairs back up to the road and reach Théoule station. It's prettier and shorter

Hello,

Having decided to do this hike with our two young daughters (aged 9 and 11), we shortened it by going directly to the Col Notre Dame via a well-marked trail that branches off 20 minutes after leaving Trayas station. We then followed the same ridge route via the Petites Grues and Grosses Grues peaks. We set off at around 9:40 a.m. and arrived in Théoule-sur-Mer in time to catch the 2:10 p.m. train.

A superb day on this route, which requires a certain amount of vigilance as the signs and markers are sometimes missing. Given the interest of the railway line, we left our vehicle in Saint Raphael to enjoy the spectacle. Photographers should allow plenty of time for taking pictures, as there is a succession of panoramic views of the Estérel massif, the Lérins Islands and the Bay of Cannes. The route poses no technical difficulties. We left Trayas station at around 9.40 a.m. and arrived at Théoule station at around 4 p.m., including photos and a picnic, which means the actual walking time was less than 5 hours.
The route was mainly frequented at the peak and the Dent de l'Ours.

Morning route: three-quarters in the shade of the mountains and vegetation (ideal during hot weather).
