On arrival, you will find yourself facing a car park; then, after about fifty metres along a tarmac path, the entrance to the forest begins.
(S/E) The first part of the path is through woodland, with Mont St-Michel on your left; on your right, you’ll first see the forest, then a horse paddock!
(1) Keep going straight on, keeping the horse paddock—marked off by barbed wire—on your right (do not take any paths that veer left towards private land). The paddock runs from halfway along to three-quarters of the way, after which a concrete wall will accompany you until you reach a tarmac path.
(2) Turn left (this way, you’ll keep the mountain on your left). The path descends; follow the road (a brief stretch through built-up areas) until you reach a junction where the road opposite leads down towards the rear of Toul station. You’ll find yourself next to a small bar (at the very bottom of the slope).
(3) Turn left to head back up (this is the road we’re taking). A fairly steep section leads to a small chapel at the top of the hill on your right.
(4). Take the sloping street (around 6–10%), then the first left, which leads you into a sort of large courtyard or car park bordered by a few houses. Continue straight ahead along a path which you’ll need to take to the left, heading uphill. Then the paths will branch off to the right or left at the top (whichever path you take, they always meet up; this is the fitness trail that allows you to finish on a gentle slope but 200m earlier than the start.
(5) In any case, you will come out onto a car park; turn 90° to your left and walk down to the car park (S/E) where your vehicle is parked.
