Col de Vars walks
Pointe de l'Eyssina
A magnificent hike that takes you along a pleasant ridge to a summit with spectacular views. Breathtaking 360° panorama of the Embrunais, Dévoluy, Écrins, Queyras and Ubaye.
The route is on an unmarked trail, so you will need to supplement the description with the Visorando app.
The Cols de l'Écuelle and Cols de Vars starting from Vars-les-Claux
A beautiful family hike starting from the Vars-les-Claux resort, taking you to the Col de l'Écuelle via the old Combe Froide rock glacier and then the very touristy Col de Vars.
There are many variations on this hike, but I suggest the wildest route possible to avoid the human developments on the mountain.
Col de Crachet, Lac de Crévoux and Col de Crévoux from Vars-Les-Claux.
A long, wild hike for those who enjoy circular walks and aren’t put off by occasionally challenging paths. Indeed, the ascent from the Crachet hut towards the Col de Crévoux (or Col de Jaffeuil) follows a path that is often on a slope, so you need sure-footedness (see ‘Practical information’ section). But it’s truly wild!
You can shorten this circular route by taking the shuttle bus up to the Col de Vars and, on the way back, taking a chairlift (if possible) to return to the resort.
A circular walk to the Tête de Paneyron and Lac de l’Étoile from the Col de Vars
A circular route featuring a steep climb to the summit overlooking the Col de Vars and, further on, the small Lac de l’Étoile. Return via the ridges of La Selle to the Cabane du Vallon before reaching the Refuge Napoléon and the Col de Vars.
