Park in the large car park at Pont de Lédédian.
(S/E) Cross the bridge and take the wide track leading to the mountain hamlets. Pass Le Roux, staying on the wide track to reach Les Chalets de Porte.
(1) Then turn right. At the next junction, leave the path coming from Les Challenles on your left. On leaving the forest, you’ll come to a junction of two tracks.
(2) Take the track on the right to quickly reach Lac de Gers and its refuge.
(3) Walk along the right bank of the lake, then enter the Combe de Gers. Begin a steeper climb to reach the junction of the path leading to the Tête de Veyret.
(4) Leave this path on your right and continue along the one on the left, emerging at Col Pelouse onto a wider track.
(5) Turn left onto this track and follow it to reach the Col de Platé.
(6) Turn left onto the path, walk between the sharp limestone pavements and reach the junction with the path coming from Col Pelouse.
(7) Turn right onto this track, entering the Combe des Foges. Follow the southern and northern ridges of the Pointe du Griffon downhill. Pass under the power line before reaching the Chalets des Foges.
(8) Continue the descent, reaching a track after crossing a mountain pasture. Follow it, making a wide left-hand bend before reaching the junction of the track you passed on the way out.
(2) Turn right back onto the track you took on the way up and head in the opposite direction to reach the Pont de Lédédian car park (S/E).
The route wasn’t too busy that day, partly because of the weather (a bit damp), and as you mentioned it’s a Very Difficult route – which suits me fine; I quite like a challenge, as long as it’s safe for a 62-year-old like me!! Bonifacio Guerreiro
