This is a pleasant walk on minor roads through villages with good views over fields and dykes. A highlight on the walk is St. Mary Magdalene Church in Fleet, and is worth a visit.

Description of the walk

(S) Start at Rose and Crown public house parking on main road or down side of pub, Fleet Hargate, PE12 8LH.

With your back to pub go to right on pavement on the same side as pub. At the first road turn into it to right onto Hockle's Gate. Keep on this road ignoring any road to right or left for 1.6 km passing Fleet Wood Lane Primary School.

(1) At the road junction with the main road, turn right into Proudfoot Lane. Be careful as there are no pavments. This road becomes Ben's Gate. Look out for Battleford Hall, the old rectory for Fleet church on your left. Look out for turn to left after about 1.2 km.

(2) Turn left intoTorrington Lane, follow this for 800 m then then turn left at the T-junction onto Church End. After about 1 km you reach Mary Magdalene Church at Fleet. Take time to visit, it is normally open. A toilet is available at the far left corner of graveyard.

(3) Continue down Hall Gate for 1.8 km to reach main road in Fleet Hargate. Turn left and continue short distance back to Rose and Crown (E).

This easy short walk along the Coronation Channel has many water birds to observe, Crested Grebe, Ducks, Swans, Herons sometimes Cormorants. Springfields is a major shopping outlet has all the facilities, coffee shops and lovely gardens to take a short break. Coronation Channel was created in 1953 following major flooding of Spalding following heavy rains rising River Welland coupled with a very high tide, so this relief channel was dug.
