Saulny Village route

Park in the school car park, Rue des Écoles. An information board about the hiking routes offered by the municipality is located at the entrance to this car park.

(S/E) When leaving the car park, turn right and then immediately left into Rue des Écoles. At the end of this street, turn left into Rue du Pré Pierron. Walk up this street for about 80 metres and then, before the electricity transformer, turn left onto Sentier des Trous. Continue straight ahead to Rue de l'Église and follow the upper part of this street, leaving a wash house on your left.

(1) After No. 16, turn right onto Sentier des Ticheresses, which climbs between two low walls and then across a lawn: follow the white arrows and stay on the path. At the top of this path, turn left onto Sentiers des Vignes: former vineyards and orchards on the southern slope. On your left, there is a lovely view of the Church of Saint-Brice, a fortified building dating from the 15th century. There is also a beautiful view of the village of Saulny and, in the background, the village of Lorry-les-Metz. Follow this path, which narrows.

(2) Turn left onto the path and, after a flight of steps, go through two gates between the houses: close them behind you. You will come out onto Rue de Briey (RD57). Cross the road using the pedestrian crossing and turn left to walk down the road for 200 metres, staying on the right-hand pavement: be careful as the pavement is quite narrow in places. Opposite No. 14, turn right onto Chemin des Fosses, which descends towards the market gardening area: numerous greenhouses belonging to Les Vergers du Château. Opposite the warehouse and the sales crates area, turn right to join Rue du Château. Turn right onto this street and, after the last houses in the village, continue along a wide, stony path: on the left is a calvary dating from 1612.

(3) Turn left onto Chemin des Grandes Rayes, which descends towards Chemin des Douars. Turn left again to follow this gravel path to the first houses on the tarmac Rue du Moulin. Leave the two streets on your left and arrive at the municipal park. Enter on the right through a gate, cross a small bridge over the Ruisseau de Saulny and walk through the park to exit through another gate on Rue de Mallemat. Continue in the same direction.

(4) At the end of Rue de Mallemat, turn left onto Rue de Vigneulles and, after a short climb, you will reach Rue de Metz (RD57). Cross this road using the pedestrian crossing and climb almost opposite onto Rue du Calembourg on the right-hand pavement. Then turn right onto Rue des Fortes Terres, which continues to the left onto Rue des Rougeottis.

(5) At the top of this street, turn left onto a grassy then gravel path, Chemin de la Croue de l'Hôpital, to reach Rue du Pré Pierron. Opposite, take Passage Henri Mouton, which runs alongside the schools and leads to the school car park (S/E).
