The walk is signposted as part of the Allier – Bourbonnais Mountains walks; starting from Arfeuilles, follow the yellow and blue markings which will be present throughout the route.
Parking available in front of the church.
(S/E) Turn left onto Rue de la République
(1) At the crossroads, turn right onto the D26 and head towards the town hall.
To the left of the town hall, take the path leading uphill towards the hamlet of Pétrassin; as with the rest of the walk, it is marked with yellow and blue signs.
Cross the tarmac road and continue up the path. Reach Pétrassin.
(2) Here is a possible alternative route: turn right to reach the Madonne d'Arfeuilles.
Alternatively, turn left onto the tarmac road and head towards the Croix des Chabannes.
(3) Go straight on, following theGR®3. Pass under the high-voltage power line and reach the Ramille farm.
(4) Continue straight on. Beautiful view of the surrounding area
At the junction withthe GR®3(signpostedGR®3,GR®3A), turn left onto the "GR®3A". Signs for the Ramille de l'Allier route are also present.
You’ll reach a tarmac road and immediately come to a path junction.
(5) Leave theGR®3Ahere and turn left onto the small path leading into the forest.
You will reach the hamlet of Le Baret.
(6) Turn right; the path runs through the middle of the houses in the hamlet.
Continue along the path into the forest, following the yellow and blue markings. You will reach the Barbenan stream.
(7) Cross it via the two small bridges and head up the other side.
At the top of the climb, turn left and you’ll come out at the hamlet of Combaret.
(8) Walk past the houses on the right and then follow the tarmac road.
Stay on this road, ignoring the one on the right coming from Mosnier, until you reach a crossroads at a hairpin bend.
(9) Turn left onto the path towards Arfeuilles.
Continue to the village entrance; the road becomes tarmac again at the first houses.
Pass the hairdresser’s and the village lodge, arriving at the post office junction, opposite the church.
(1) Follow the outward route back to the car park (S/E).
