The walk is signposted as part of the Allier – Bourbonnais Mountains walks; starting from Arfeuilles, follow the yellow and blue markings which will be present throughout the route.

You’ll reach a tarmac road and immediately come to a path junction.

(5) Leave theGR®3Ahere and turn left onto the small path leading into the forest.
You will reach the hamlet of Le Baret.

(6) Turn right; the path runs through the middle of the houses in the hamlet.
Continue along the path into the forest, following the yellow and blue markings. You will reach the Barbenan stream.

(7) Cross it via the two small bridges and head up the other side.
At the top of the climb, turn left and you’ll come out at the hamlet of Combaret.

(8) Walk past the houses on the right and then follow the tarmac road.
Stay on this road, ignoring the one on the right coming from Mosnier, until you reach a crossroads at a hairpin bend.

(9) Turn left onto the path towards Arfeuilles.
Continue to the village entrance; the road becomes tarmac again at the first houses.
Pass the hairdresser’s and the village lodge, arriving at the post office junction, opposite the church.

Very easy walk with dogs as there is little tarmac; cross the Barbenan so they can drink (about 1 hour 45 minutes after setting off)
(8) Combaret – Farm cheese available for purchase

Worth a visit

Beautiful view at the start of the walk.
At the first hamlet (Pétrassin), you can take a short detour to the right for 100m to reach the Madone d’Arfeuilles (statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking Arfeuilles).
At the hamlet of Combaret, a farm sells fresh, homemade cheeses.

A pleasant walk, sometimes through the woods and sometimes out in the open; on the route, it’s well worth taking a short detour to La Madone – it’s very pretty.
