Grebiay Route

A pleasant walk, mostly shaded in summer, to soak up the mysterious atmosphere of the Vosges forest. It passes throughlovely mature woodlands and vast fields of ferns, offering some beautiful views of the mountains. The Chalet du Grebiay provides a sheltered spot to stop and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings. If you’re with children, you can shorten the walk to 1 hour (2.8 km) with very little elevation gain.

Description of the walk

Access: from Le Thillot, take the RN66 for 5 km to Ferdrupt. Continue for 300 m and take the road on the right before the town hall. Continue straight on this road for 2.7 km. The road turns into a track for about 200 m before becoming tarmac again. The Col de la Sûre is 100 m away.

Signposting: Red Ring, Red Triangle

Start: Col de la Sûre.

(S/E) From the car park, take the forest track to the right of the cross. Follow the signposting for Le Grebiay chalet (Red Ring and Yellow Disc). Continue along this forest track, always following the Yellow Disc signposting for 1.4 km. This path leads to the Chalet du Grebiay (open chalet), from where you can admire a beautiful view of the Upper Moselle valley, with the Ballons d’Alsace and Servance as a backdrop . Take the time to stop for a meal or a snack and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. Walk past the chalet.

(1) (A quick return to the starting point is possible here by following the Red Ring route to the left). To continue, turn right for about a hundred metres.

(2) Then follow the faint path marked with a Red Triangle which starts on the left. This path becomes “playful”, with an undulating and winding trail, a few ascents and descents to negotiate with care, and markings that require a degree of attention.

(3) You’ll reach a first viewpoint, an open space on a rocky outcrop overlooking a steep slope. Continue along the path, which keeps undulating.

(4) Second viewpoint towards Ramonchamp and, in the distance, the Ballon d’Alsace. The path continues, eventually turning into a track and joining the road at a farm.

(5) Continue left along the small road to the 598m mark “Les Prés Herqué”.

(6) Turn left after the first house. The signposting indicates a shortcut (which may be wet in rainy weather), a little steep but effective for rejoining the tarmac road further up, which you should follow to the Col de la Sûre (S/E).

An easy hike, following a shaded forest trail with narrow paths that are sometimes quite steep. Two superb viewpoints overlooking the valley, with magnificent scenery.
The trail ends on a quiet road. I recommend it
