Circuit des Sources de l'Aër - Church of Saint-Yon and Notre-Dame de la Fosse

Departure from the Church of Saint-Yon in the village of Locuon in the commune of Ploërdut, in search of the springs of the Aër, a stream that takes its source from several small brooks that feed it and which will be discovered throughout this country walk. The trail is signposted and suggested by the Pays du Roy Morvan Tourist Office. Very often wet and muddy in winter, you'll need to be well equipped to complete this trail, or to enjoy it from mid-April to September when the weather is milder. Don't miss the Chapelle de Notre Dame de la Fosse at the end of the tour.

Description of the walk

The starting point is at the church in Locuon (Saint-Yon Church - 16th century) in the commune of Ploërdut on the border with the Côtes d'Armor. Park along the wall in front of the church. Yellow markings will guide you along most of the route; you will find the first marker at the corner of the street that descends towards the main road in Locuon.

(S/E) With your back to the Church of Saint-Yon, take the road that descends to the left towards Vilérit. Continue left on the municipal road until you reach the crossroads at Vilérit.

(1) Turn right onto a rural road.

(2) Keep left at the fork and follow the path through the undergrowth and fields until you reach the road leading to Quénécat.

(3) Turn right onto the road to the hamlet of Botcuon and pass the farm buildings.

(4) Turn left, then left again at the first three-way junction. Follow an old tarmac road towards Kerguédalen, which you will cross. The road then becomes a track. Pass the Ruisseau du Gohello stream below (or the Aër, depending on your map) and continue to an intersection.

(5) Take a hairpin turn to the left, still in the woods, and further on you will rejoin the Aër.

(6) Turn right without crossing the stream and follow the path south to Kerbailler, then north-west towards Roscato.

(7) After the right-angle bend, take the path on the left for 500 m, before leaving it for a path on the right just after crossing a stream. Follow this path, which will take you back to the Roscato road.

(8) Take the road on the left, then right at the crossroads, and cross Guéronnez. Continue for about 200 m.

(9) Don't miss the path on the left, hidden by vegetation. Cross the hamlet of Branduec and another stream to join the D1.

(10) Follow it on the right for about 700 m: be careful, the road is dangerous and there is no path on the side!

(11) Leave the D1 towards Rohec on the right, then immediately after entering the local road, turn left onto a forest path. Follow this path, which can be very wet and muddy, for about two kilometres until you reach a crossroads of two perpendicular forest paths in the Bois de Launay.

(12) Turn left and pass another crossroads of forest tracks before turning sharply left to follow a path along the edge of a field on your right.

(13) When you come out of the woods, cross a local road and take the farm track opposite, which runs alongside a field on your left. Pass the lake on your left. After Lann Izel, the track becomes a local road. Follow it for one kilometre until you come to a fairly steep farm track on your right.

(14) Turn right onto this path and pass Botkoll on your left to arrive on an old Roman road and reach Locuon.

(15) Immediately at the entrance to the village, turn left towards the wash house, then when you reach the wash house, turn right until you reach Notre-Dame des Fosses: a chapel built in an old Gallo-Roman quarry. See also the fountain below by making a small loop, return to the chapel, then turn left to go up to the Saint-Yon Church, which overlooks the whole area, thus completing this circuit (S/E).

A very beautiful, fairly hilly hike that allows you to discover the ruins of abandoned hamlets along old paths.
Beautiful scenery.
The current wet weather and forestry work sometimes make the paths very muddy.
