Description of the walk

Starting point at 9 Avenue Gaston Monnerville. Park opposite on the square near the green waste skips.

(S/E) Head towards the D8 (the road leading up to the roundabout). After about thirty metres, take the street leading up towards the health centre. Walk past it and go up the steps to reach the D8. Follow it to the left (Allée des Rimades) for about a hundred metres.

(1) Carefully cross the D8 at the pedestrian crossing and take the road opposite which goes uphill and turns into a footpath.

(2) When you reach the top of the path, turn right onto Chemin des Giganties and follow it for about 100 metres until you reach a bend.

(3) Turn onto the path on the left which leads down to a road.

(4) Follow it to the left and look out for the return path on your right.

(5) Carry on straight ahead until you reach the Fork in the road.

(6) Take the path branching off to the right (wooden sign indicating “les Champs Grands”) and carry on straight ahead. After a long climb, you’ll reach a tarmac road.

(7) Follow the road lined with houses, pass through Les Grands Champs and arrive at a crossroads.

(8) Turn right onto the Chemin du Pic (there’s a reconstructed apiary on the left). Follow the GR®36.

(9) Continue to the right along the path towards the viewpoint, where an orientation board helps you find your bearings and admire the scenery.

(10) Facing the valley, head off to the right onto a narrow, very steep path. You can bypass this by taking a path to the right of the start of the steep section, which goes round it to rejoin the track. Then follow the ridge path to a three-way junction.

(11) Take the narrowest path branching off to the right towards another three-way junction.

(12) Follow the path branching off to the right and continue to a fork.

(13) Turn off again onto the path leading to the right. The descent is quite uneven; take care in wet weather or after rain, as the stones are slippery. Continue straight on until you reach the road and the junction you passed on the way out.

(5) Turn left and, following the route in the opposite direction to the outward journey, head back to the car park next to the green waste skips (S/E).
