Description of the walk

Start from the car park of the Élouges sports hall

(S/E) Turn your back on the car park and follow the cycle path towards Mons Roisin.

(1) At the junction with the Roisin cycle path, take the sharp right-hand bend towards Bavay. Continue for 100 m and cross Rue du Commerce (take care), then continue along the cycle path towards Roisin.
After walking 4 km, passing a large modern building (the Notre Dame de Paix care home) and crossing a bridge over the river (the Petite Honnelle), you will reach a junction with the Chaussée Brunehaut.

(2) Turn right onto it for 5 metres and take the first paved road on your right.
Continue straight on until you reach a small chapel.

(3) Take the road on the left and continue straight on until you reach Place d’Audregnies, which is the largest square in Belgium (2 hectares). On the square you can see (to the north) the Abbey of the Trinity (a long building in the Tournai style from the late 18th century, opening onto the square via a stone door dating from 1763, bearing a coat of arms depicting, on the left, the cross of the Order of the Trinity and, on the right, three unicorns on a cross pattée.
Walk along the square and take the small alley opposite.

(4) When you reach the road, cross carefully and follow it for 10 metres to the right before turning left onto a dirt track that runs alongside the Battle of Audregnies memorial (800 British soldiers lost their lives there on 24 August 1914).

:5:: Continue straight on towards the wind turbines.

(6) At the hamlet, continue straight on towards the wind farm (the path is very muddy in wet weather).

(7) At the junction with the RAVEL, take the path to the right.

(8) Cross Rue de la Chapelle with care and continue along the cycle path to the sports hall car park (S/E).

A simple and relaxing walk. To add a bit of variety, we walked around Terril No. 8. The path, which was very pretty but quite muddy in December, made the walk a little more fun. It was a lovely break in the fresh air.

Hello, thank you for your review. It’s true that there’s a lot of tarmac, but it’s still best to avoid this route in wet weather because the path leading up to the wind turbines is often very muddy...

A lovely walk, thanks to our guide who knew the history of the Memorial, as there were no signs there...

A RAVEL cycle route, as the name suggests, so it’s all tarmac, with lovely views of the countryside and a (too) clean route
No regrets, and well worth doing when the paths are too muddy
