The Chestnut Tree Route in Moulins

The route starts from the church square.

(S/E) Facing the start sign, head left and go down a small street to reach Rue du Centre Bourg. Turn right, then at the Y-junction, turn right onto Rue des Peupliers. Pass all the houses, take the first road on the left and follow it to Le Vernay.

(1) Turn left just before the house, pass the farm buildings on the left and turn right. Follow the track to Le Buron, then turn left in the middle of the hamlet. Turn right about sixty metres before the road and walk alongside the fields, following the yellow markings until you reach a T-junction.

(2) Turn left and follow the road. Pass through the hamlet of Haut Brialaine and turn right just before the last house. Follow the road and then the track straight on until you reach a T-junction.

(3) Turn right, then turn left at the crossroads and follow the road until you reach another crossroads at La Haute Lande. Turn left, continue straight on, then turn onto a track on the right just after the first road on the left. Follow this track until you reach the hamlet of Ranée.

(4) Turn right just before the hamlet, then turn right again once you reach the road. Pass a house on your right, then turn onto a tree-lined track on the right about a hundred metres further on.

(5) Once at the end, turn left. Pass in front of a small copse and turn right to join the road 800 metres further on.

(6) Turn left and follow the road along the edge of the Château de Monbouan grounds. Pass La Bourjaudière, then turn right at the junction. Pass La Grande Bulinière and stay on the same road until you reach the hamlet of La Mare.

(7) Cross the hamlet, carry on straight ahead, then take the path on the right opposite the entrance to La Rouërie. Follow this path, which leads onto a road, and turn left.

(8) Take the path on the right at the end of the first field. Follow the field on the left and, once at the end, turn left at a 90° angle. Turn right just before the farm, then, once you reach the road, turn left and continue to the Stop sign on the D37.

(9) Turn right, pass a farm and take the first road on the right, called Chemin du Couvent. Follow this road straight on to reach the church square in Moulins (S/E).

Car parks, toilets and shops are located near the starting point.

Saint-Martin’s Church: be sure to admire the church porch and the Tree of Jesse in the north chapel. The church is open every day.
