Circular in the countryside of Theil-de-Bretagne from La Roche aux Fées.

Le Theil de Bretagne is a predominantly rural commune with a rich architectural, religious and natural heritage. The Résidence Bon Abri, the Notre-Dame de Beauvais Chapel, listed as a Historic Monument, the Château de La Rigaudière and the Church, with its patriotic stained-glass windows, are just a few examples. This country walk crosses the commune of Theil-de-Bretagne. The circular starts at the Roche aux Fées covered passage, an extremely well-preserved iconic monument.

Description of the walk

Car park at La Roche aux Fées.

(S/E) On leaving the site, take the D471 on the right (marked GR®), pass a pond and join the access road to the hamlets of Trousselière.

(1) Turn left towards these two hamlets, pass the buildings and, at Basse Trousselière, take the path on the right heading south for about 1 km.

(2) At the top of the hill, turn right towards the Pont Guesdon stream. At the bottom of the slope, turn right to join a path that runs alongside the stream and follow it to the right. It makes a small loop right-left-left-right before finally heading west, running alongside the stream and joining the D99.

(3) Follow it to the right for about a hundred metres and turn left onto Route de la Riguaudiére. Leave the castle on your right and continue round the pond to the bridge on the D173.

(4) Before the bridge, take the path on the left which runs alongside the D173 below. After about 1 km, you’ll reach the D99.

(5) Follow the road to the right towards Le Theil-de-Bretagne. Continue straight on until you reach the railway line, near the station (you can stop for a break at the wash house park).

(6) Turn left into Rue des Perrières (do not cross the railway line). Continue along the path on the right and follow it to the railway bridge.

(7) Take the Route des Petits Champs on the left. You’ll come out onto the Route de la Tidiére; follow it to the right.

(8) Just before the level crossing, take the path on the left and follow the railway line for about 350 m. The path turns left to reach a bridge crossing over the D173. Cross this bridge.

(9) Turn onto the first path on the right to return towards the railway line. Follow this path as it cuts across and reach the hamlet of Les Brégeons.

(10) Cross the road to take the path opposite and follow it to the next junction.

(11) Turn right onto the path, which curves to the left after about 100 metres, and follow it straight on. At the crossroads, continue straight on along the dirt track to the hamlet of La Roche. Watch out for traffic. Turn left and follow the D141 to the car park (S/E).

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. It should have gone along the edge of the forest towards the Pont Guesdon stream.
I’ve changed the route to a different section. I plan to do this route again in May or June, and I’ll check it out then.
Another possible route: LE THEIL-DE-BRETAGNE – CIRCUIT DE LA RIGAUDIÈRE from Roche aux Fées community.

A very pleasant walk, but there’s a major problem between point 2 and point 3. The path has disappeared and the land has been reclaimed by the farmers who work this whole area. We had to make our way across the fields.
