La Rigaudière route

Le Theil-de-Bretagne is a predominantly rural commune with a rich architectural, religious and natural heritage. The Résidence Bon Abri, the Notre-Dame de Beauvais Chapel, listed as a historic monument, the Château de La Rigaudière and the church with its patriotic stained-glass windows are just a few examples.

This hike takes us through the countryside around Le Theil-de-Bretagne, where we can discover a landscape of hedgerows and orchards as we stroll along, enjoying the peace and quiet and gentle way of life.

Description of the walk

Car park, Place de l’Église.

(S/E) Walk past the church on the west side and head south towards the railway line. Do not cross it, but turn left and continue straight on until you reach Rue des Perrières.

(1) At the left-hand bend, take the grassy path on the right that runs alongside the railway line, and follow it to the railway bridge.

(2) Turn left onto Route des Petits Champs. You will come out onto Route de la Tidiére; follow it to the right for about 50 metres.

(3) Just before the level crossing, take the path on the left and follow the railway line for about 350 m. The path turns left to reach a bridge crossing over the D173. Cross this bridge.

(4) Turn onto the first path on the right to head back towards the railway line. Follow this path as it veers left and reach the hamlet of Les Brégeons.

(5) Cross the road to take the path opposite, and follow it to a road.

(6) Turn left, then take the first street on the right. Keep the buildings on your left and continue to La Bréaudiére.

(7) Turn right for 50 m, then take the dirt track on the left. Follow it for 750 m.

(8) Turn left onto the path, which goes round the hangars. At the road, head right for about 60 metres, then take a gravel path on the left. The path heads west until it reaches the Ruisseau du Pont Guesdon.

(9) Follow it to the right, passing between the ponds, and reach the junction of the two streams. Turn left to head west again, until you reach the D99.

(10) Follow it to the right, then left, towards La Rigaudière, a retirement home. Leave the castle on your right and walk alongside the pond. Continue along the same road, keeping the pond on your left. Continue towards the D173 road bridge.

(11) 50 m before the bridge, take the path on the left and follow it, running parallel to the main road, until you reach the D99.

(12) Follow it to the right, towards the village, where you can see the church spire to the south, and continue straight on to reach the Place de l'Église (S/E).
