Route de découverte de Vieux-Thann

Vieux-Thann is best known for its industrial heritage. However, there are green spaces that allow you to escape this atmosphere entirely. This route takes you to discover them all. The walk passes by Saint-Dominique Church and Place Bernard Thierry-Mieg, as well as the Espace Rammersweier. Other points of interest along the route include the town hall and Place Scherrer.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park on the corner of Rue de l’Église in Vieux-Thann.

(S/E) Head towards Rue de l'Église and follow it straight ahead. Leave Place Bernard Thierry-Mieg and Saint-Dominique Church for later and turn left onto the D351. Cross the River Thur and you will come to a park.

(1) Turn back. After the River Thur, take the first left onto Rue Clément Kolio. At the junction, turn left, then straight ahead to follow Rue de la Paix to the cemetery. Leave the cemetery on your left, cross the railway line, and cross Route de Mulhouse.

(2) Head straight on into Rue de Reiningue. Take the first right, then keep right onto Rue du Rhin. At the junction, take the first left, Rue de l’Artois, and follow this street to the Salle Sainte-Odile, which stands on the site of a former church.

(3) Turn back. At the end, turn left onto Rue du Rhin. Then take the first right. On Route de Mulhouse, head up to the left before taking the first right onto Rue de Champagne. At the railway line, cross it and continue to the second junction.

(4) Continue straight ahead. Pass the junction at Place Marcel Kielwassel, and at the next fork, turn right towards the town hall.

(5) Go back to the third junction.

(4) Turn right onto Rue Jeanne Garnier. Pass Vieux-Thann station on your left. When you reach Rue Charles de Gaulle, turn left. Then take a right-angle turn to the right and cross Rue Berger André to take the path opposite, leading to Espace Rammersweier.

(6) Return to the road and follow it on the left. At the tennis courts, follow the small path that runs behind them. Pass a road on the right, then continue along a small path. At Rue du Blanchiment, go up this street on the left to reach Place Schaerrer. Take the street on the right. At Place du Moulin, turn right onto Passage du Couvent. At the end, turn left to reach Place Bernard Thierry-Mieg and Saint-Dominique Church.

(7) Retrace your steps and continue along the passage on the left. Keep going straight on until you reach the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

-Park at (1)

-Sainte-Odile Hall: was built on the site of a former church. Its bell tower was still standing a few years ago. A photo is available here. The bell tower has now disappeared.
