Park in the car park of the Bunkert Thann primary school near the fire station.
(S/E) Head towards Kattenbach after crossing the Thur bridge, Rue du Rangen, passing in front of the Kattenbach nursery school, the Établissement Saint-Joseph. Turn right into thefirststreet: Rue du Kattenbachy and keep right at the crossroads. At the last house (Bois Joli), take the small path that goes up to the right.
(1) Turn right onto Chemin Montaigne and follow this path. Turn left onto the path marked Triangle Bleu, follow this path which climbs and runs alongside vineyards. You will reach a crossroads.
(2) Descend through the vineyards and rejoin Chemin Montaigne. Follow this path heading north-east, passing Dachenfels (Dragon Rock) where the path veers left. Further on, you will come to another crossroads. Turn right at the hairpin bend onto the path marked with red, white and red markings. You will come to a path marked with blue crosses that branches off to the left. Continue along the left-hand branch, then turn right to join a wide path that passes under a power line and is still marked with blue crosses.
(3) Turn right onto this path, which passes under the power line again and heads north, skirting the ponds on the left. Continue along this same path.
(4) Turn right at the hairpin bend, continue along this wide path which turns again at a hairpin bend near an oratory and continue following the same markings.
(5) Leave this wide path and turn right, heading towards the Hirnelestein viewpoint (climbing rock). You can climb to the top of the rock via a ladder to admire the beautiful view.
(6) Shortly afterwards, take the path marked with a yellow cross on the left towards Amselkopf and continue to the Col de l'Amselkopf.
(7) At the pass, turn right onto the path marked with a yellow cross towards Pascetenplatz.
(8) Turn left to reach the Rehbunnel shelter, the Wotan Oak and the viewpoint.
(9) Continue along the yellow cross path towards the Col du Grumbach.
(10) Shortly afterwards, after a three-way junction, turn and descend to the left (red dot) towards Thann. Be careful not to fall, as the descent is steep. Leave the wide track and descend to the junction with a forest track, then follow it to the right. It forms a wide curve and arrives at a bend.
(11) Turn left onto the Kattenbach Forest Road. Follow this forest road, which runs alongside a stream at one point. Continue to the crossroads in the Kattenbach district.
(12) Leave the forest road and take a path on the left marked Red White Red and follow it to reach the Croix du Rangen.
(13) Once you reach the cross, you will find a beautiful view of the town of Thann. Opposite the cross, you will see the Œilrui de la Sorcière (ruins of Engelbourg Castle) and, in line with the bell tower of Thann Cathedral, the Cross of Lorraine.
Turn right onto the Blue Triangle marked path to rejoin the Chemin Montaigne, which you took on the way there. Follow it to return to the car park of the Bunkert Thann primary school (S/E).
