Description of the walk

Park at Place du Maréchal Ferrand near the church.

(S/E) Head towards the lower part of the village via Route d’Irvillac, turn onto Route des Monts d’Arrée and take the first road on the left, Route de Bodénan. Note the Celtic cross and the wash house (Kandi) in the background. Continue along the road and turn off after 100 m, to the left, towards Kerhuel. Reach the hamlet via the road on the left.

(1) Take the path on the right and join the D18 just before a bridge.

(2) Turn left, cross a stream and continue along the road to the first junction marked by a sign for Chemin du Tréhou,

(3) Turn right onto a path to reach a high point at 139 m. Take care when climbing to the top of the rock, as it can be slippery. You’ll have a beautiful view of the surrounding area – the perfect moment to catch your breath and have a drink.

(4) Carefully descend the rock, cross a stream and follow the path as it winds southwards. At the 123-metre mark, turn left towards the east to reach a picnic area.

(5) Turn right onto the path that climbs towards the highest point of the commune at altitude 172.

(6) Look out for and go round the highest point, the rock (Roc'h Gad). Continue on to Bodénan.

(7) Go straight on along the path, skirting the highest point. At the road, cross over and take in the countryside.

(8) Walk leisurely to Coat Menec Huella, passing a few springs and water sources along the way. Cross the D35.

(9) Turn left to reach the gas pipeline (yellow marker 465).

(10) Turn right at the marker and continue for 1 km

(11) First turn right then left and continue for 1 km.

(12) Turn right towards the D33 (road between Irvillac and Le Tréhou), cross with care to reach the hamlet of Brunoc. After the pétanque court, ignore the sign for Chemin du Tréhou at the junction.

(13) At Brunoc, before the garage shed, take the path on the left, and after 100 m, turn right. Following some steep descents and climbs, reach the hamlet of Kergoat.

(14) Walk quietly through the hamlet and admire the magnificent restored houses.
Turn left and then immediately right to rejoin the path that will take you to the mill by the bridge and the village square (S/E).

Hello, it’s true that since the route was created on Visorando, storms, a lack of maintenance and tree felling have meant that this walk is no longer worth doing.

A very wild hike in the heart of the countryside.
However, many sections are impassable due to puddles and mud. You will need to take a detour along the embankments or through the neighbouring fields.
Since Storm Ciaran, some sections are still blocked by fallen trees and impassable; you’ll need to find a way round as no alternative route is provided.
There are very recent signposts in some places. However, there are no intermediate markers, so it is very easy to get lost.
Fortunately, the map downloaded from Visorando helps with navigation.
I had planned to take a hiking group on this trail but have decided against it. A shame.

The route was followed in the opposite direction to that shown on the map (starting at the Moulin du Pont near the church)
Passing through Kergoat (watch out for dogs running loose)
At Kergoat, turn left towards the wayside shrine.
At the wayside shrine, turn right towards Rosnonen
At the next wayside cross, turn left towards the D33
At the junction, take the path opposite. Follow for 3 km
At the 138m mark, turn left to join the D35
Head straight ahead and cross the Coat Menec Huella farm
Follow the path, which is well-maintained but still passable, to Bodénan (watch out for the dogs – they’re more intimidating than vicious)
On leaving the farm, turn right (tarmac road) and 100 metres further on, take the path on the left towards the picnic area beside the D18.
About a hundred metres past the rock at elevation 172, the path is impassable (a tangle of trees following Storm Ciaran)
Passing through a forestry site, you reach the picnic area only to find that the path through the woods is impassable, if not non-existent.
Return off-trail to the rock at elevation 172 and Bodenan
Take the tarmac road towards Le Tréhou (passing through Nabonnés (on the right) up to elevation 88, then take the path on the right leading to Kéruel
At Kéruel, turn left then take the path on the right to reach Le Tréhou

''Hike not recommended until the paths have been repaired''____

Part of the path was impassable due to flooding. Best tackled in wellies or during the summer months
