The departure point is between the temple and the church on Rue des Églises in Chagey. The route is marked with a yellow ring
(S/E). Go down Rue des Églises, turn right onto Grande Rue (D16) towards Chenebier.
Although the marked route does not go there, I recommend following Grande Rue to the 1870 war memorial opposite the cemetery.
(1) Retrace your steps towards the centre of Chagey, then at the crossroads, leave the Grande Rue and turn left onto Rue du Temple. As you pass, admire the Protestant temple on the right and, a little further on, the bell tower of the Catholic church.
At the end of Rue du Temple, turn left and then 30 metres further on, turn left again to follow Rue de Prosey. At the end of the village, when you reach the forest, it becomes a forest road that climbs uphill. Follow it to reach the Marie des Geais forest house.
(2) Admire the Marie des Geais oratory behind the house. Follow the path on the right for 50 metres, which leads to the menhir or Pierre de Saint Dèsle, then return to the forest house. Turn right and follow the forest path downhill.
(3) At the edge of the forest, turn right and follow the tarmac road to the junction with the D218.
(4) Follow the D218 to the right for 50 metres, turn right onto a path that continues along Rue des Étangs and leads to the village of Chagey. Admire the two magnificent ponds on the left as you pass. Turn left onto Rue du Pré la Miche.
(5) At the wash house, turn right and then immediately left onto Rue du Fournil.
When you reach Grande Rue (D16), turn right and then right again to return to the starting point on Rue des Églises (S/E).
