Park at Col du Fau (south-west of Monestier-de-Clermont). At the pass, head towards Mens. 100 m further on, you will see a memorial with a small car park.
(S/E) Leave the Col du Fau memorial car park and take the road to Mens on the right (south-east). Very quickly, take the path that climbs up to the left at a 45° angle (against the grain, due north). It makes a wide turn to the right to head south-east. You will arrive at the Col de Ferrier.
(1) Take the shortcut in front of you and continue along the small road, still heading south-east. You will arrive at the Col de Fraisse.
(2) Your road makes a hairpin bend to the left. At the end of the hairpin bend, follow the beautiful forest track to the right at a 45° angle (towards "Combe Mille"). After a wide bend to the right, you will find a forest track climbing up to your right. It is blocked by a red and white barrier. Sign: Combe Mille. Take this track. It will quickly lead you to the Col de Maissenas.
(3) An old wooden sign invites you to turn left. Do so. You will pass a clearing. Be careful not to miss the path that climbs up to the right just after the clearing. Sign: Les Pignes (hidden by vegetation). Your path winds through the forest with a steep climb. It will take you to Côte Rouge.
(4) Côte Rouge orientation table. Enjoy the 360° view of the peaks and the Trièves basin. In addition to the orientation table, there are two signs, a bench and a picnic table – what luxury! Set off again, continuing along the path, which initially descends before climbing back up to Baraton. In the meantime, you will have crossed a path and continued straight ahead. After Baraton, the path descends steeply to the left. This is the only difficult part of the walk. You will wind your way along a path that leads to a crossroads.
(5) Bois de Maissenas. Turn right (towards Côte Mandaire) and you will soon come to another sign.
(6) Côte Mandaire. Turn right (towards Roissard). Pass the hamlet of Le Gachet to reach the hamlet of Maissenas, where you will find a water source.
(7) Cross the hamlet, continuing along the small road until you reach the RD34.
(8) At the place called Les Combes, cross the road and continue straight ahead. Keep the bell tower of Roissard church in sight. You will pass it. Ignore a path that branches off to the right, then turn right at the next fork. When you come to another path, turn right again to enter the pretty village of Roissard. Turn left to return to the church. Head north through the village.
(9) Towards the top of the village, before reaching the departmental road, you will see a sign for "Roissard - alt. 749m". Go down the dirt track on the left.
(10) You will come to a small road. You will see a sign for "Les Ruches - alt. 745 m". Turn left.
(11) Pass the hamlet of L'Homme.
(12) In the hamlet of Les Peyrouses, follow the sign for Col du Fau and turn right. Once you have left the hamlet, you will come to a fork and turn left. Further on, you will come to a T-junction and turn right. At the next junction, you will see a sign on the left for a level crossing with automatic signals. Continue straight ahead.
(13) At a fork, your small road branches off to the right. Continue straight ahead on the grassy path opposite. It will narrow and become a trail. Pass under the railway line and climb steeply to reach the road to Mens. Turn left to return to the car park (S/E).
