Route west of Bombon via Saint-Méry

A moderate-difficulty walk, with little elevation gain, west of Bombon, passing through Saint-Méry, then across fields and two small woods. It then follows and crosses the Ru d’Ancœur, the Ru de la Prée and the Ru des Moines, passing by the Flagy Mill and the Voies Mill

Bombon was the birthplace of the 1918 Victory. Indeed, General Foch moved his command post to Bombon in 1918. His marshal’s baton ‘was presented to him in the castle’s main courtyard in the presence of all the chiefs of staff, Marshal Haig, Marshal Pershing, General Pétain and the highest political authorities, the President of the Republic, Raymond Poincaré, Clemenceau […], Painlevé, former Minister of War and former President of the Council. General Weygand […] was by his side.”

Description of the walk

Car park and start of the walk, 9 Rue de l’Église Saint-Germain de Paris (13th century) in Bombon; alternative car park between 17 and 27 Rue de Provins.

(S/E) Starting from the car park, with your back to the church, head right, leave Rue de Mormant on your left, and turn right onto Rue du Toc

(1) Turn left onto Rue du Moulin, then right onto Sentier de la Gerbette, and ignore thefirst junction.

(2) Cross Rue de Bréau with care. At the end, turn right into a cul-de-sac, left onto Rue du Marchais, and left onto Rue du Château. Follow this street, ignoring Rue de la Fontaine.

(3) Turn right at the next junction onto Rue du Parc, and at the end, take the second right onto Rue de Forest

(4) Turn left onto Rue de la Fontaine, ignoring Rue du Lavoir. Pass the Fontaine du Charnois and a sewage treatment plant on your left. At the end, turn right, then left

(5) Turn left, leaving the PR®, cross the Ru d'Ancœur, turn right and follow the stream on your right until you reach a road; follow this to the left.

(6) Turn right (marker 96), ignore the junction on the right, and turn right (marker 94).

(7) Pass the Notre-Dame de Roiblay Chapel on your right, then cross the Almont and the PR®. Pass a junction, go past some oil wells, and arrive at a junction.

(8) Continue left, turn left and then right (marker 93), and cross the Ru de la Prée.

(9) At the Moulin de Flagy, turn right, ignore a junction, and pass a sewage treatment plant. At the end, turn right (Saint-Méry) onto Rue du Gatinais, and pass a wash house on your left. Ignore Rue du Jeu de Paume, and pass the town hall and the church of Saint-Méry.

(10) Turn left onto Rue du Moulin des Voies, and cross the Ru des Moines and the Moulin des Voies

(11) Turn right onto Chemin de l'Abreuvoir and enter the Bois des Carrières. Cross the Ru des Moines, then, taking care, cross Rue de la Garenne, and take Route de Bombon, keeping to the left. Turn into thefirst path on the left and cross the Ru des Moines

(12) Turn right (elevation 102), pass two junctions, and arrive at a junction. Fief des Époisses on the left.

(13) Turn right, pass a pond on the left, then cross the Ru des Moines.

(14) Turn right (marker 107), Chemin de Lady. At the end, turn left onto Rue de Mormant, then right onto Rue de Provins, and left into a passage opposite No. 7 Rue de Mormant, arriving at the car park of the Church of Saint-Germain de Paris, in Bombon (S/E).
