Description of the walk

Park in the car park in the centre of Gorbio.

(S/E) From the car park, take the Chemin de Peille and start the hike at marker 500, heading north-west. The tarmac road ends at the campsite.

(1) Continue along the path that first turns right and then immediately turns left (yellow mark at a right angle on the wall), leaving a track on the right that runs alongside a green fence.

::2: At marker 501, at the junction of the two tracks, take the one on the left, still heading west-north-west, onto a track that quickly becomes a path continuing in the same direction (marker 502).

(3) At marker 503, cross the track and continue along the path, still heading north-north-west, past marker 504. The path continues north-west, leading more clearly into the bottom of a ravine in the Ravin du Rank.

(4) Cross the ravine to the left and climb up its right-hand slope.

(5) At marker 505, join a path coming from the left and arrive, shortly afterwards, at the D22 county road, at the Col de la Madone de Gorbio.

(6) At marker 557, cross the D22 and head north-northeast.

(7) At marker 555, leave the path on your left that descends towards Peille and continue climbing to the right, heading north-east.
Caution: take care on the descent in the steepest part of the route, particularly as you approach the 1159m mark.

(8) The terrain becomes more challenging around 1159 m and begins to curve to the left (heading east-northeast). Some sections, though not dangerous, may require you to use your hands to maintain your balance.

(9) At marker 556, at the pass, turn right, heading due east, and climb more gradually up to the Cime de Baudon, which is now in sight (orientation table).
Return via the same route to reach the Gorbio car park (S/E).

A hike I usually do once or twice a year, generally in autumn or early spring. It’s a bit warm at the moment unless you set off early in the morning. It’s quite a challenging hike, particularly in the second section after the Col de la Madone. Please be aware that you may encounter sheep with mountain dogs in this section, so do take care. For the more fit, there’s the option of hiking up to the Cime du Baudon, starting from the coast at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, which involves a climb of 1,250–1,300 metres. See you soon on the trails

Reliable signposting from start to finish
Be careful, however, on the return journey a few hundred metres from the summit. There are two possible routes back, and it is very easy to miss the path leading back to the same route taken on the way up
In fact, there is a second yellow marker that leads straight on and takes you far away from the small car park at the Col de la Madone.
