Park near the Chalencon Post Office, by the hiking information board.
(S/E) Take the magnificent Rue Royale opposite, which starts to the right of the porch. Walk past the post office, head towards Place du Valla and cross it, turning left to reach the orientation table. You’ll then arrive, via a lovely paved slanting street, in front of the Tourist Information Office.
(1) Turn right towards Saint-Jean Chambre. At the next junction, go up the paved slanting street on the left to reach the Place de l’Église. Take the steps opposite, signposted ‘Table Oppidum’, then ‘Ruins of Chalencon Castle’. Then follow a path between low walls to reach another orientation board.
(2) Continue left along the narrow path that winds between old agricultural terraces until you reach a road leading to the hamlet of Chaumenasson.
(3) Continue straight on up the slope to reach the highest point, at a place called Pialoup.
(4) Begin the descent through the woods to reach the crossroads at the ‘Pracoulet’ signpost.
(5) Keep straight ahead on this path, then turn left onto theGRP®® Tour du Pays de Vernoux. You will soon come to the junction at the La Fraysse signpost.
(6) Continue along theGRP®® marked in yellow and red. Follow the signs for Mourier until you reach a crossroads on a track leading to the mast near the hamlet of l’Aulagnier. Here, you will find the first gate, which you must close behind you.
(7) Turn 180° to the left, pass through a second gate, which you must also close behind you. Continue down through a chestnut grove until you reach the ‘Mourier’ signpost, at the junction with theGR®®420.
(8) Turn left onto thisGR®®, marked with red and white signs, towards Chalencon, and reach the hamlet of Baudèche.
(9) Continue along theGR®®, pass the hamlet of Malevalet and begin a new ascent via wide hairpin bends until you reach the ruins of Malavette.
(10) Continue the ascent to reach the next high point, the hamlet of La Barre.
(11) Descend through the forest, then across the fields, passing close to the hamlet of Chaumenas before reaching the crossroads at Chaumenasson.
(12) Stay on theGR®® to return to the original crossroads by the Tourist Information Office.
(1) Retrace your steps along the same route as on the way there to return to the car park near the Post Office (S/E).
