Chemin d'Agros

The Agros trail will take you through the village of Pouzols and its surrounding countryside. It passes near the Agros stream, which marks the boundary between Poulan-Pouzols and Lombers. Thanks to its reservoirs, this small stream used to power the mills that were once used to grind grain. Remains of these old mills can still be seen, such as the Raco mill and the Vitrac mill.

Description of the walk

Park on Place de l'Église in Pouzols.

(S/E) Take the Lombers road (D23) and continue to the Chemin de Castel Franc crossroads.

(1) Turn right towards Puech Ferri. Pass in front of the Porch (restored dovecote). Leave the road leading to Puech Ferri on your right, then the road leading to Daudou. Continue to the D124 crossroads.

(2) Turn left and cross the D124 road. Go around the Conté farm on the left, following the path in front of you towards the Raco mill.

(3) Before reaching the Agros stream, turn left and follow the path until you reach the D23 road.

(4) Cross it and take the path opposite. You will soon reach the junction with the D124 road.

(5) Take this road on the right and keep right at the next crossroads. You will then reach a new Y-junction.

(6) Before this Y-junction, take the road on the left towards Le Roc (formerly Chemin de la Mouline). At the next junction, turn left and continue straight ahead. Then, at the end, turn right and then left to reach Pouzols and the church car park (S/E).

A beautiful, well-shaded route in the heart of nature, but there is a risk of getting lost as it crosses other routes with poor signage at strategic points.

A relatively short route, making it ideal for mid-December. A little damp in places, but very pleasant overall.

Despite a week of rain leading up to our walk, all the paths were passable. It was a pleasant route that we completed in 1½ hours at a normal walking pace.

A "good walk" takes 1½ hours rather than 2 hours. Looking for "the remains of the mills" can be fun for children as they are not easy to spot Otherwise, this hike is more like a bucolic post-lunch stroll than a hike worthy of the name At marker 243 on the map, be careful to take the path on the left as it is tempting to continue straight ahead up the hill.

A beautiful hike, with few paved roads, best done on a slightly overcast day if you're worried about the sun. All the signs on site point to the ARGOS trail, not Agros. The region is not part of the Massif Central at all; we are in the TARN, in the Occitanie region.
