Park in the Lac de la Maix car park: From Vexaincourt, follow the signs along the Route Forestière de la Maix to the terminus, car park below the road.
(S/E) From the car park, walk back up to the road and go through the barrier on the right, then turn left, following the blue diamond markings towards Prayé, and left again at the three-way junction.
Follow theGR® de Pays de la Déodatie along a beautiful sandstone path lined with blueberries, climbing steadily and linearly.
(1) When you reach a forest path, turn right towards the Haut de Prayé crossroads. Take the left-hand horseshoe bend and stay on the main path, which descends slightly.
When you reach the Route Forestière de Prayé, follow it to the left (away from the Refuge Roger Laederich), still following the blue diamond markings.
(2) At the Col de Prayé, turn right onto the Route Forestière des Hautes Chaumes, then a little further on, take the path on the left, marked with the blue ring of the Bipierre route.
(3) At the crossroads at the edge of the forest, turn left towards the Chapelle de Bipierre, thentake the first right to see the remarkable rock and walk around it to climb onto the platform (view of the Donon).
Return to the crossroads and continue following the Anneau Bleu markings towards Tête de Bipierre (ignore the Disque Vert path descending towards the Étang de la Maxe).
Walk along a ridge path (views of the Bruche valley) alongside the old boundary markers.
(4) Return to the forest road and turn left twice, following the Red Cross markings towards Haute Loge.
(5) Leave the forest road and turn left towards Moussey (Red Cross markings), walking along a fence.
See the curious cup-marked stones. Continue on to Les Hautes Chaumes.
Cross a stony path and continue straight ahead towards Chatte Pendue. See the ruins of an old marcairerie (enclosed pasture for livestock), then arrive at a forest path.
(6) Turn right, following the red triangle markings (opposite the direction of Chatte Pendue).
At a crossroads, continue straight ahead (red triangle markings).
(7) At the right-hand bend, leave the forest road and follow a path on the left (marked with a red triangle).
Note: The fork is a little hidden, so if you reach the junction with the Jean-Michel Letz forest road, you have gone too far...
At a crossroads, continue straight ahead towards Basse des Loges (red triangle signpost).
When you reach a forest road, follow it to the left for a few metres.
(8) At the entrance to a left-hand bend, take the path downhill to the right (marked with a red triangle).
Further down, cut across a path and continue straight ahead towards Haut du Bon Dieu. Follow the forest road to the left, running alongside a small river downstream, and at the next crossroads, continue straight ahead.
(9) When you reach Poteau 41, known as La Maix, cross the road via a left/right turn to continue towards Haut du Bon Dieu (red triangle markings).
(10) At the Haut du Bon Dieu crossroads, make a round trip to the Roche de la vue du Lac de la Maix, following the red disc markings.
:11:: Return to the crossroads.
(10) Turn left, go through a gate, and follow the blue diamond markings towards Lac de la Maix.
(12) Descend to the right towards the lake via a path (blue diamond markings).
See the chapel and crypt, descend via a staircase and reach Lac de la Maix.
Walk around the lake and return to the car park via the stone steps (S/E).
