A small car park (5–6 spaces) is located just before the village entrance, on the right. Vehicle access to the village is restricted to residents. You should therefore arrive early as parking can be difficult, particularly during the holiday season. The hike can also be started from Trébons-de-Luchon, the village just before Cazarilh.
To get to Cazarilh from Luchon, take the D618 towards the Col de Peyresourde. After 2–3 km, at the first hairpin bend, take the small road on the right (D51a) which quickly leads to Trébons and then to Cazarilh.
You can also join the route at (13), from Trébons-de-Luchon via the Chemin de la Tour de Castel Blancat.
(S/E) From the car park, follow the road towards the village; after about 50 metres, leave the return path on your left, pass the church and continue to the narrow lane that climbs to the left just before the fountain.
(1) Immediately take the path that climbs up to the left, then turn sharply right.
(2) As you come out of the bend, ignore the path branching off to the left and continue straight on towards the rising sun (east) until you soon reach a fork with a sign.
(3) Follow the sign on the left pointing towards Antenac and begin the steep north-westerly climb, which follows the ridge line until you reach a flat area with a wide path.
(4) This is the GRP® Tour d’Oueil-Larboust trail. Ignore the path leading down to the left towards Sacourvielle (sign) and continue straight on along the well-marked path, which now climbs much more gently through the woodland, along the hillside and across a balcony. In fine, dry weather, it is possible to follow the ridge line above to the right. Continue until you emerge from the woodland at the pass (elevation 1686m). The Cap de Salières rises up before you.
(5) Leave the local GRP® trail, which continues along the slope to the left towards the clearly visible Cabane de Courrau, and carry on heading directly for Cap de Salières, recognisable by the beautiful solitary beech tree just below the summit, which you will reach quickly (elevation 1774m).
(6) Enjoy the view, then head back down to the previous junction.
(5) Head down to the right, towards the west, straight into the small valley at the edge of the woods. You’ll soon come across an old logging track. Continue along the valley floor and the edge of the woods until you reach the start of afirst track on the left.
(7) Ignore this forest track which heads off up the slope and continue the descent through the small valley until you soon reach the hairpin bend of another well-marked forest track which descends opposite, veering to the left.
(8) Follow this good track, which descends along a ledge through the undergrowth, until you reach a well-marked first hairpin bend.
(9) Continue to the right, leaving the path that climbs up to the left, and join a good track. Take this track downwards and, after two further hairpin bends – first to the left then to the right – reach, about 300 m further on, a path that branches off to the left.
(10) A wooden sign points to Sacourvielle / Trébons-de-Luchon / Cazarilh. The path descends, heading due south. Continue until you reach an open intersection.
(11) Follow the yellow sign pointing left towards Cazarilh / Trébons. You will soon come to an old tower on the right.
(12) Continue along the same path until you reach a fork, with a path branching off to the right leading down to Trébons.
(13) Continue straight on until you reach the car park at the entrance to Cazarilh (S/E).
