From Andoain, take road GI-3091 (Leitzaran bailara) along the Leitzaran river. The car park
is located just before the end of the road.
(S/E) Continue to the PR®-GI-162 trailhead on the right.
(1) Take the right-hand path alongside the pond.
(2) Climb the 500-step staircase to the first canal level (canal de las 500 escaleras).
At the top, turn left along the canal to the right.
(3) Turn right over the canal to reach the middle of the thousand-step staircase, and climb the second half to reach a track.
(4) Cross the track and climb a dirt track to the second level of the canal (canal de las 1000 escaleras).
(5) Turn left and follow the canal, which winds around a contour following the Kanaleko bidea, which means canal path in Basque.
(6) The canal is overhung by the highway. Continue along the canal, which curves to the left.
(7) At the crossroads in front of a building, turn left onto PR®-GI-161, which leads back down to the canal des cinq cent marches.
(8) Continue straight ahead along the Leitzaran river to reach the basin junction.
(1) Follow the same path as before to return to the car park (S/E).
