Brette and Lawe

Start from Place des Martyrs.

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn right onto Rue Roger Salengro, continuing until the first junction with Rue du Château.

(1) Turn right and continue to the right, following the river La Brette, then turn left and, further on, right to cross the river, and carry on straight ahead until you reach a path.

(2) Head straight ahead, keeping slightly to the right, until you reach the next junction.

(3) Take the track on the right and carry on straight ahead to the next crossroads.

(4) Turn right, then take the first path on the left. At the end, head down to the right until you reach a four-way junction with Rue du Moulin.

(5) Head straight ahead along this street, continuing past the mill, then take the main road on the right until you reach a grassy path.

(6) Follow it to the right, then, at the end, take Rue Jules Elby on the left, and, at the junction, take the path slightly to the left. At the end, walk past the house on the right until you reach a junction.

(7) Carry on to the left. At the end of the path, head straight ahead, continue straight on, and go under the bridge.

(8) Immediately afterwards, take the steep, dirt track on the right, following the bridle path on the left until you reach a fork.

(9) Take the path on the right and, a little further on, the one on the left. Go through the gate and follow the Lawe to the end.

(10) Turn left, then, after passing through the gate, turn right onto the footbridge and continue straight on until you reach Rue du Mont Durand.

(11) Head straight ahead onto the Sentier du Vieux Fort. Do the same at the next street, then miss the next junction to reach the children’s playground.

(12) Turn right, walk between the children’s playground, and turn left to join Rue de la Gare; follow this road to its end.

(13) Take the D341 on the right, and carry on until you reach a track on the right, after Lawe.

(14) Turn right onto the track, cross the Brette, then turn left. Cross the car park and go straight on until you reach a junction.

(15) Turn left to reach the Place des Martyrs (S/E).

Waterfall and mill at La Comté, and the ‘cavalier’ (an old route used for transporting coal).

Alternative route: at point (11), take Rue du Mont Durand on the right, then continue left onto Rue de la Place and left again onto Rue du Calvaire, until you reach the D86. Cross it and take the path diagonally to the left, heading north-east. Continue straight on. At the end, make a quick first turn right then left and take Rue du Jeu de Paume. At the end of this street, at the^first junction, leave Rue des Écoles on your left and Rue d’Amiens on your right. At^{the second} junction, which follows immediately, turn left onto Rue de la Geharie, then take the third left onto Rue du Sac, and head towards the point (15).
