Description of the walk

Park in the car park along the Semois at the foot of the Pont Saint-Lambert in Vresse-sur-Semois.

(S/E) Head east, cross the stream over the Old Bridge and follow the Semois along a wide path. Further on, leave the path and take a narrow path on the right. After a few buildings on the left, you will arrive at a plateau, the starting point of the wicker bridge.

(1) Cross the Semois river via the footbridge, taking care. At the exit, turn right and enter the village of Laforêt. Walk up the village to the Fontaine de Pépé Crohet fountain.

(2) Turn right onto the Sentier des Légendes (Legends Trail). At the next crossroads, leave the wide path and climb up the trail, which is marked with plaques bearing proverbs. At the top, the trail continues to the left. Follow it to reach the viewpoint over Laforêt.

(3) Descend (west) to reach the tarmac road. Turn right, ignore the paths on the right and walk past the houses. The path becomes a trail and enters the woods. After about 50 metres, it leads to a major crossroads. Ignore the path on the right and take the path next to it, which climbs up to the Saloru viewpoint. Continue north-west to the viewpoint.

(4) Descend to the left via a steep, winding path. You will reach the road. Turn right and head towards the bridge over the Semois.

(5) Cross the bridge, leave the Route de Vresse on your right and, after the left-hand bend, climb up to the right of the church. At the signpost, head north, leaving the holiday chalets on your right and continue climbing for about 700 metres.

(6) In a slight right-hand bend, continue straight ahead on the path which continues flat, crosses a path on the right and crosses a stream in a left-hand bend.

(7) Almost immediately, take the path on the left and, when you reach a road, turn right. At the next bend, take the path on the left towards the Jambon de Membre viewpoint.

(8) ***To avoid crossing the field (prohibited in Belgium!!!), go down the road for 50 metres, turn left and then left again to join the path between the fields. You will come to a small road.

(9) Turn right onto it. Ignore the two paths on the right and left. You will arrive at a well-equipped picnic area for hikers.

(10) Take a path on the left towards the woods, follow it for a few metres, and before the meadow, turn left under the fir trees, heading north-east to join the GR®. Follow it to the right and then to the left. At the end of this straight line, it continues to the left.

(11) Take a faint, sometimes overgrown path on the right, which widens as it goes, still heading south. After the dip in a small valley, a sign indicating "le Maquis" points the way to the left. Reach le Maquis.

(12) Make a small detour to the right to reach Camp des Blaireaux. To the left of the "refectory" hut, climb the path (no. 26). It intersects with a path to the left (no. 26-27) which descends to Vresse at a calvary. Continue to the left and admire the artwork decorating the wall. Continue to Pont Saint-Lambert and the car park (S/E).

Hello
We did this route according to our own preferences and modified it slightly.
We will be back because the view was breathtaking.

Very beautiful hike, but you need an app to find the route. The map is not enough. A few people at the Claies bridge, but otherwise not many people on the route.

Hello,
A very beautiful hike with magnificent views, which are earned through some challenging climbs – my calves certainly remember them 😂
The description is sometimes a little vague, but thankfully the GPS route is fine.
- Small correction to be made:
at point 10, the trail isn't really a trail; you have to cross fields and then climb over a fence to get back on the GR. Wouldn't it be easier to take the GR directly, which is a little higher up? Finding a place by guesswork is a bit vague.
At point 12, after the Maquis des Blaireaux, the description says to turn left, but according to the GPS route, it's to the right. Thank goodness for the GPS, which allowed us to see our mistake before going too far.
We didn't see the calvary, unless it was the little chapel of Walcour?

We were a family of two adults and two teenagers.
A very beautiful hike that is not to be missed.
Thank you very much for helping us discover the region in this way.
The hike isn't too busy once you leave Vresse. We were able to enjoy the wooden bridge that was built the week before.
Regarding the route and description:
- my GPS watch showed an extra kilometre at the viewpoint over Membre
- Point No. 6 does not correspond to the description... a slight correction is needed, but it is not a problem
- After visiting the "Maquis", we turned left after the climb, but according to the description, we should have turned right. The path starting from the left is also interesting because it follows a ridge and then descends towards Vresse.
16.5 km - 4 hours 40 minutes excluding breaks

Very good overall!
On the climb after the church in Membre, the directions were unclear, so we turned right and then had to turn back. The holiday chalets are real homes. Suggestion: Follow the GR towards Gedinne?
Then we just missed the turn-off to the viewpoint at JAMBON. On the tarmac road, we didn't see the right path (even though there was a small path in the woods just opposite the road crossing), so we went to the Terme farm and picked up the route further on in the woods.
Thank you

It's a shame that the wooden bridge isn't up yet at this time of year. It's a superb route with lots of viewpoints – pure bliss. Many thanks!
Same as the others, the meadow bit surprised me a bit.
I really enjoyed the descent after the viewpoint.

A very pleasant hike, but not too difficult or long: it took us about four hours, including a lunch break (we are good walkers)...
However, there is an inconsistency in the route: you have to cross a meadow and then climb over a fence if you want to follow the GPS track, which is not ideal...
The two main viewpoints (Roche de Saloru and Jambon de Membre) are very pleasant and fairly uncrowded.
Be aware that the Pont de Claies bridge is closed most of the time except in summer (June to September). We crossed the Vresse sur Semois bridge and then went through the small wood to reach Laforêt and the GPS route...
To sum up: a beautiful walk that hurts your legs but could be slightly modified to be perfect!

A very pleasant and varied hike, done on 2 December under a gloomy sky; but we imagined it with autumn colours! It must be superb!
The hike is described as difficult, most likely because of its length, as the paths and trails are good and easy. The descent from the viewpoint was a little slippery due to the incessant rain the day before. So caution is advised on this descent.
I didn't take the information sheet with me, so I can't comment on the quality of the description. I followed the GPS track - no problems with that. Except perhaps that whoever suggested the track should modify it so as not to cross the meadow (as described in the text in 8 ); it was open and I followed the track and therefore had to climb over the fence to reach the path, but at other times of the year it will be closed.
Thank you for this hike.

We found many inconsistencies in the description, e.g. for the arrival at the Membre ham viewpoint (why take the tarmac road when there is a small path through the woods, just opposite the road crossing)? The accuracy at crossroads is not great. The route is 17.6 km long instead of the 14 km and a bit planned.
On the other hand, it is a magnificent region with many points of interest and excellent tourist facilities.
