Description of the walk

Park in the large car park at the cross-country ski centre in Autrans.

(S/E) Head west along the road that runs alongside the car park and continue straight on along Chemin des Plagneux. You will reach a crossroads at a place called La Tour.

(1) Turn right heading north. About 200 m further on, you will come to a four-way crossroads. Turn left across a vast snow-covered meadow, keeping a large isolated fir tree in sight. Go around it on the right, climbing towards the forest, and take the path going up on the right. You will reach the Route Forestière de Nave.

(2) Take it to the left on the shoulder and reach the Nave car park.

(3) Leave the road and turn left onto a path, which quickly joins the GR®9.

(4) Take it on the right and follow it uphill to the Fontaine Renard bend. Turn left and immediately reach a Y-shaped crossroads via a steep climb.

(5) Leave the GR® here and take the path that descends slightly to the far right. Stay on this path and walk easily to Fontaine Scellier. Go around the forest house on the right and a few steps further on you will reach the Route Forestière des Épérières.

(6) Turn right immediately, heading south, to begin a very steep section lasting about ten metres. Continue along this long and wonderful path, which resembles a canyon in places. Continue parallel to the Route Forestière de Nave to reach a multiple crossroads at a place called Le Creusot.

(7) Take the path opposite, then slightly to the right, continue downhill and rejoin the Route Forestière de Nave.

(8) Keep left, along the edge of the cross-country ski trails, until you reach the car park of the cross-country ski centre in Autrans (S/E).

Notes

Important note: the route is not easy to follow in winter. Heavy snowfall during the night can wipe out the tracks in the morning. The first hikers will have to retrace the route, which can be very tiring. Be sure to take turns leading the way!
