Start at the Salle des Fêtes in Saint-Vincent-Bragny; parking available.
(S/E) On leaving the car park, take the street on the right.
(1) At the first junction, turn right onto the road.
(2) About 500 m further on, take a path on the left. Cross a large forest, continuing straight ahead (west).
(3) Stay on the track which veers south-west. Leave the forest further on, still following the same track. Cross a small road and continue along the track opposite.
(4) Turn right at the Fork in the road (barbed-wire fence). Return to the tarmac road and carry on straight ahead (west-south-west).
(5) Cross a road and head straight on along a dirt track. After 200 m, turn right. Pass a horse farm and carry on until you reach the junction with the Route de Vigny (D994).
(6) Follow it to the left, carefully cross the D994 to reach the Rigole de l’Arroux and cross it. The Rigole de l’Arroux is a small canal (which feeds into the Canal du Centre) that was used to supply the Gueugnon forges. This canal dates from 1869.
(7) Turn left to walk alongside the canal on your left and rejoin the D994.
(8) Go under it via a small footbridge. Continue along the Rigole de l’Arroux, which is now on your right. Cross the canal bridge over the Bourbince and immediately reach the bank of the Canal du Cantre.
(9) Turn left, heading east, to follow the canal along the Greenway: be careful, as there are lots of cyclists during the summer months.
(10) Pass under the Route Centre Europe Atlantique (RCEA) A79 for the first time. Carry on straight ahead along the Voie Verte.
(11) Leave the Voie Verte and turn left (D352) to enter Paray-le-Monial. Shortly afterwards, you’ll pass a bakery.
(12) At the traffic lights, turn left. 150 metres further on, turn right after the council warehouse. Continue straight on through the residential area.
(13) Cross the road and carry on straight ahead towards the industrial estate.
(14) Go round the roundabout on the right and head towards La Grande Bruyère. At the next roundabout, turn right towards the aerodrome.
(15) At the crossroads, turn left and ride alongside the aerodrome on your right.
(16) Just before the bridge over the RCEA, turn into a field on the right: make sure you close the gate properly.
(17) At the end of the track, at the junction of the dirt tracks, take the one on the left.
(18) At the end of this short track, turn right and follow the edge of the field. Climb over the fence and carry on straight ahead.
(19) Pass under the RCEA a second time, follow the track running alongside the motorway on your left, then continue along the road that branches off from it.
(20) About 200 m past the house, turn right onto the dirt track and, above all, do not go back onto the RCEA. The track continues to run alongside the motorway on your left.
(21) Pass under the RCEA for a third time. On the other side, take the road on the right.
(22) At the dirt track, turn left towards the telephone exchange.
(23) After the relay station, keep to the left and head into the woods. Stay on this path, heading south-west then north-west.
(24) At the end of this track, turn right. Walk past the beautiful house at the end of Chemin Maréchal, then take the road on the left.
(25) Cross the Oudrache and continue to the D352.
(26) Follow the D352 to the right.
(27) Turn left onto a dirt track – this is the Chemin de l’Échat.
(28) At the end of this track, turn left towards Chassagne Castle. Walk past the castle without entering the grounds, as it is private property. At the end of the castle path, follow the road to the left.
(29) Take the first small tarmac road on the right. At the end of this road, you’ll come back to the junction where the walk began.
(1) Turn right to return to the Salle des Fêtes car park (S/E).
