Loop between Treschâtel and Rambaud via the Bellevue farm

An unpretentious loop in the Gapençais region, starting from the hamlet of Treschâtel and passing through the village of Rambaud, along footpaths, tracks and small roads. Not a very shaded route, ideal for a short walk during the cold season.

Description of the walk

From Gap, take the D942A (Rue de Valserres) or the D6 (Route de Rambaud) to reach the hamlet of Treschâtel. Park in the car park near Le Riotord, just before the hamlet of Les Jouberts.

(S/E) Take the shaded path heading south-east, then north-east, until you reach the hairpin bend.

(1) Continue along the path opposite and head east along the edge of the woods.

(2) Take the path on the left, heading north. Cross the Riotord stream and continue west until you reach the Treschâtel road.

(3) Follow the tarmac road to the right and continue to the Via Domitia junction (Chemin de Curbanion on the left).

(4) Turn right, heading south-east, to follow the GR® 653D and arrive at a crossroads.

(5) Turn right, heading south, onto Chemin de la Pallue for 150 metres.

(6) At Riotort, take Chemin de Carquette on the left and continue between the fields, heading south-east until you reach the D106 road to Gap, without taking it.

(7) Continue along the path on the right, heading south, without reaching the hairpin bend in the tarmac road. Climb up between the trees to join it further on.

(8) Cross the D106 with caution and take the "shortcut" path. Cross the D106 again with caution and climb the winding path, then take the Chemin Serre de l'Aigle to reach the village of Rambaud.

(9) Turn right onto the Jarjaye C2 road, then 200 m later, continue along the Chemin de Saint-Marcel opposite. Continue straight ahead until you reach the Bellevue farm and the exit bend.

(10) Leave the path and take the trail opposite across the fields and then into the trees.

(11) Continue straight ahead, heading north-west, ignoring the path that descends to the left.

(12) Take the path on the right, heading north, until you reach Chemin de la Combe Treschâtel.

(13) Descend to the left towards the hamlet, following the Torrent des Fontaines until you reach the first houses. Continue to the fountain.

(14) Turn right to join Route de Treschâtel.

(15) Turn right to return to the car park at the start (S/E).

Worth a visit

The Saint-Pierre Chapel, in the hamlet of Treschâtel, was probably built in the late 17th or early 18th century, with a longitudinal plan and a single nave.

The village of Rambaud catches the eye with its striking white bell tower overlooking it. "Le Serre du Clocher" owes its name to the bell tower at its summit, the only remnant of the Sainte-Croix church destroyed in 1565 by Protestants. From the orientation table on this hill, there is a 360° view of the Gapençais, Champsaur and Val d'Avance regions.

The Church of Saint-Marcel, located in the centre of the village, was built in 1855 at the foot of the bell tower hill. Renovated in 2004 by Hervé Sand, its central aisle features two rose windows by Camille Lombardo.

A lovely little walk, though it's a shame that in places we had to follow a small country road that is not particularly quiet.

Very well-described route, pleasant walk
We found a table in a sunny clearing, which was perfect for our picnic.
We were a little unsure towards the end of the route on the way back, but with a little thought and common sense we found our way
I recommend this peaceful hike with lovely views
