Description of the walk

Starting point and access: Saint-Chéron station.
- RER - Line C, on the section between Paris and Dourdan.
Take exit 2 Rue Racary, on the side of track 1 (direction Paris to Dourdan; if arriving in the opposite direction, take the underground passage).

No signposts

(S/E) When you leave the station, cross the street, continue straight ahead (ignore the arrows pointing to the left), go down a flight of steps and take a paved path. Cross a street on the left and pass between tennis courts. Turn right and walk along the Orge River on your left. Then turn left onto a paved path to reach a footbridge.

(1) Cross the Orge river on this footbridge, ignore a path on the left and follow a stabilised path. Ignore a wooden staircase on the left, turn right and take a tunnel under a road (tall people should take care to duck down). Continue straight ahead on a tarmac path and ignore a turn-off on the right. When the tarmac turns left, continue straight ahead on a stabilised path and walk alongside a football stadium on your right. Ignore a path on the right and take a footbridge without railings.

(2) At a fork, keep left and enter a wood. Take a footbridge with railings, then two without railings. Leave the wood, pass under power lines and walk alongside a field on your left. Pass a few houses and come out onto a street. Follow this street to the left until it ends.

Trail 4 signposting

(3) Turn left onto Route de Blancheface. After No. 37, turn left onto Chemin de la Garenne. Soon, the tarmac gives way to a path that climbs into a wood. At the top of the hill, leave the wood, turn right and follow a grassy path between two fields.

Red and white + yellow markings + Trail 4 signposting

(4) At the crossroads, turn right and walk along the edge of the woods on your left. Enter the woods and immediately turn left, staying in the woods. Leave the woods and walk along the edge of a field on your left. Continue straight ahead, cross a copse and continue between unfenced meadows towards some houses. You will rejoin the tarmac road when you reach the houses.

(5) At the T-junction, turn right. At the stop sign, turn left onto Rue Jourdain. Cross the cul-de-sac of the same name on the right-hand side and reach Place du Mesnil (bus shelter).

(6) Then turn right onto Chemin des Bosses. The tarmac soon gives way to a field path. At a fork, keep to the right and walk alongside a wood on your left. Enter the wood and, at the crossroads immediately ahead, turn left.

(7) At the crossroads, take the second path on the right, which starts just to the left of the "Forêt Communale de Sermaise" sign (the first path on the right is not very clearly marked but can be identified by a forest barrier). Descend steeply. Leave the woods and continue slightly downhill between two unfenced meadows. Cross a road and take a smaller road opposite.

Red and white + yellow markings

(8) When the road turns left, take the path furthest to the right, the Sente de la Princerie, and walk along a fence on your right. Ignore a path on the right and continue downhill. You will come to a small road; follow it to the left and you will soon reach a T-junction (Sermaise town hall opposite, church in the background on the left).

Yellow markings

(9) Then turn right. Continue straight ahead and cross the Orge again (wash house on the left). At the traffic lights, use the pedestrian crossing to cross the D116 (Avenue de Dourdan on the left, Avenue de Paris on the right). Continue straight ahead on a gravel path. Continue along a grassy path and take a narrow tunnel under the railway line. On the other side, climb a path, which leads to a stony track. Follow it to the left and you will soon reach a crossroads.

(10) Turn right, walk along a concrete block wall on your right and climb up into the woods. At the top of the hill, ignore a path coming from the right and arrive on the plateau at the edge of the field.

Yellow markings + Trail 4 signposts

(11) Turn right and walk along the edge of the field on your left and the woods on your right. Ignore a path on the left (not shown on the map), enter the woods and descend gently.

(12) Leave the woods, turn left, then immediately right. Follow a grassy path between two fields, the one on the right being lower down. Continue descending slightly. At the end, first turn left then right to take a path closed to vehicles and go back up into the woods.

Red and white + yellow markings + Trail 4 signposts

(13) At the T-junction, turn right and immediately ignore a path on the right. Walk north-northeast through the undergrowth. Soon you will come to two parallel paths: take the one on the right, marked with yellow signs with two sides bearing the markings. Ignore a marked path on the right and continue to a fork further on.

Red and white + yellow markings

(14) Then turn right onto a path. Ignore a path on the right, then one on the left, and descend.

Red and white + yellow + bluemarkings

(15) Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and follow the sunken path opposite. Descend slightly and walk along the cemetery wall on your left. The path gives way to tarmac, continue downhill. Ignore a lane on the left and pass between numbers 6 and 1.

(16) Return to the D132, cross it carefully (there is no protected crossing here) and follow it to the left. Shortly afterwards, turn right onto Chemin des Écoliers and leave the war memorial on your left. Then first turn left then right to descend a path followed by a staircase. You will come out onto Rue Charles de Gaulle. Follow it to the right for about 20 metres.

(17) Then turn left onto another path and pass the Écomusée de Saint-Chéron on your right. At the end, turn left and pass a car park on your left. At the crossroads, cross Rue Aristide Briand and follow Avenue de la Gare, which is roughly opposite. Walk down to the station (S/E).

To return home:
- RER - Line C, either towards Paris (immediate access) or towards Dourdan (take the underground passage).

A pleasant and easy walk.
At 9, a short detour to see the church of Sernaise is well worth it.
I confirm that it is preferable to take the path parallel to the GR between 13 and 14.

One mistake: you don't turn left onto Rue Blancheface, but right. But any hiker will quickly figure it out.
The GR at no. 13 is still impassable, and it's better to take the small parallel path. The length ends up being boring, so I cut halfway to go straight down. You'll find a mini path just opposite, cross the railway line, take the road slightly to the left and turn right at the roundabout. You can see a pretty wash house and a little further on to the left you will find the path you started on.
I parked in the SCE des Eaux car park to avoid the barriers under the station that prevent Joëlettes from passing!

A pleasant hike with lots of variety (crossing fields, forests, small villages and an original end to the route along small paths in St Cheron).
Avoid doing this hike during hunting season (there were many hunters out on this Sunday morning) and on Sundays (motocross bikes and trailers were out).
