Saint-Caprais-Quinsac-Cambes - Circular Loop 5 - CdC Gates of the Entre-deux-Mers

Stone quarried from the local quarries shapes our landscape. It forms the foundation of the castles, as well as the old houses that cluster together to form hamlets, bearing witness to the way of life in these localities. Vines, clay soil and stone form the bedrock of our relationship with this land and mark our impact on these transformations.

Circular No. 5 of the Portes de l’Entre-Mers Community of Communes.

Description of the walk

Start from the Domaine de Loustallaut.

(S/E) Turn left onto the D240 and follow the road to the church.

(1) Then turn left and left again onto Chemin de Carbonneau. Follow the path through the vineyards. Keep to the right.

(2) At the end of the path, take the second road on the right (Chemin de Caucetey).

(3) At the sign for “Chemin des Vignes”, turn left onto the grassy path that runs alongside the vineyards. Then go straight on into the forest. Take care, as the ground can be slippery in places

(4) At the junction with the road, cross over and continue straight on along Chemin de Pasquier.

(5) Take the second street on the left, Chemin de Coudot.

(6) At the end of the road, turn right.

(7) Go round the Branda estate via the dirt track through the woods. Follow the path which turns left then right. Continue along a road. At the end, you’ll reach Chemin de la Dame Verte, which you should follow to the right. Turn left towards the Les Grands Horizons housing estate.

(8) Take the grassy path on the right.

(9) At the end of the path, turn left onto the road.

(10) At the third junction, take the road on the right.

(11) At the bend, turn left onto the path that runs alongside the football pitch. At the end of the path, turn right then left towards the hamlet of Rondeau.

(12) Once you have passed the hamlet, take the grassy path on the right and continue straight on through the woods and then the vineyards. Continue straight on until you reach a crossroads.

(13) Turn right. At the junction with the road, go right, then at the three-way junction, left and left again.

(14) At the end of the road, follow the path in front of you leading into the vineyards. After the first plot, turn left into the woods. At the junction with the road, turn left and then right onto the path. Continue straight on through the woods.

(15) As you come out of the first woodland, stay on the path on the left. At the Haut Peyrat wine estate, situated on high ground, take the path that branches off to the right into the woods. Take care, as the ground is slippery in places. As you come out of the woods, turn left onto the road. Stay on the Chemin de Couder.

(16) Head back up towards Saint-Caprais.

(17) At the junction with the Route de Gourgues, turn left then right onto the Chemin de Pontac. Turn left immediately, then take the grassy path a little further on, straight ahead, to return to the starting point (S/E).

Very interesting and varied; the scenery changes constantly – narrow paths, a bit of woodland, vineyard edges, a few wine châteaux and some uphill sections, with a good climb near the finish line towards Saint Caprais
