Park on the side of the D17E opposite the Montagneu le Bas or Montée de Gala climb. You can start the hike from the large car park at Montagneu Town Hall.
(S/E) With your back to the Montagneu le Bas climb, take Chemin de la Lima. Leave a path on your left (which will be the return route) and continue to the crossroads after the house.
(1) Continue straight ahead on a path that descends steeply and is often muddy. After crossing the stream on a bridge, climb up the other side and you will arrive at the first houses of Bouis, where the path is paved. Continue to the crossroads near a fountain and a cross.
(2) Continue straight ahead on a slight downhill slope. At the left-hand bend, turn left onto a grassy and marshy path, which climbs steadily. Cross a small road leading to a farm and continue straight ahead. The path continues to climb and reaches another road.
(3) Turn right onto it. After a left turn, a right turn and athird left turn, you will see the houses of the hamlet of Eynoud in the distance. About twenty metres after thisthird turn, a path along the edge of a meadow is marked by a small square post with a yellow arrow.
(4) Leave the road and turn right onto this path. Flat at first, it then climbs gently. At the end of the path, turn left for a few metres then turn right onto the road. Follow it to the stop sign at the crossroads with Route de Virieu (cross on the right-hand side). Turn left along the road to the next stop sign.
(5) At the stop sign, turn left and take a path that passes under a high-voltage power line. On the right, there is a view of the Chartreuse and Mont Blanc. The path follows the ridge line and joins the bend of a small road. Follow this road to the right. After a right-hand bend, the road descends through the hamlet of Malessart and arrives at a right-angle bend on the right. At this bend, take the path on the left and follow it northwards. It remains roughly horizontal until the crossroads at the Beauregard sign.
(6) Pass the sign and continue straight ahead towards Montagnieu. Cross the Eynoud road. Continue straight ahead, still heading north. Cross the Tribouillon road (cross on the left) and continue straight ahead into Impasse de Tribouillon. A short descent and a short climb to cross the Molles stream and then join the bend in Chemin de Molette.
(7) Continue straight ahead on the right. The path becomes tarmac when you reach Montagnieu. Stay on this path, which has now become a road. When it runs alongside an embankment on the left, it meets a road coming from the right. Keep left and join the Y-junction just after.
(8) Turn left onto Chemin de Feydel (small tarmac road). After about 250 m, you will arrive at the town hall car park (another possible starting point for the hike).
(9) Continue straight ahead on the road until you reach a right-hand bend. There, continue straight ahead on a gravel path, Chemin de la Lima. Enjoy the descent eastwards, which joins the crossroads you encountered on the way there.
(1) Turn right and return to the starting point (S/E).
