Circular between Liart and Maranwez

Park in the square in front of the town hall, near the church.

(S/E) Pass the Maison de la Thiérache and go down Rue des Nots. At the bottom, turn right onto Rue Colin Not, then take the path on the left between numbers 8 and 6.

(1) When you reach the school, turn right onto Rue Labecq and then left onto Rue des Gobins. Pass the educational farm, then under the railway viaduct.

(2) Keep to the right, turning diagonally. After the farm, the road turns into a country lane and joins another road. Follow it to the right until you reach the bend before Les Dupins.

(3) At the three-way junction, take the path on the left. After about 600 metres, the path becomes grassy, narrows and descends to the Ruisseau des Quartiers stream.

(4) Crossing the stream requires waterproof boots or a bit of balance. Immediately leave the path on the left, climb up to the road and continue in the same direction to reach Maranwez at the church and town hall.

(5) Take the D56 on the right towards Montmeillant. At the next crossroads at the Grande Picardie farm, turn right and go around the farm. After the farm, take the path that leads to Ruisseau du Moulin.

(6) As there is no bridge or ford, you will need to cross wearing high waterproof boots, barefoot or with a bit of acrobatics ( as we did). Find the path slightly to the left and go straight up the hill. At the top, turn right and walk for about 400 metres.

(7) Take the grassy path on the right and descend to La Vallée farm. In front of the farm, turn left and go back up. When you reach the road, turn right and continue to the old railway line that connected Liart to Amagne.

(8) At the old gatekeeper's house, take the path on the left. Follow the old railway line to the Maison des Rochers.

(9) Turn right, follow the road and, at the three-way junction, turn right along the stream. The road climbs and leads you to Les Grands Cornaux with some beautiful houses and an information panel. Continue along the road to reach the junction with the D978.

(10) Turn right and follow this road carefully to the waste collection centre. Leave the road by turning right for about 200 metres, then turn left onto Chemin des Rognons. Return to the D978 and follow it to the right to reach the square in front of the town hall and the car park (S/E).
