From St-Laurent-du-Pont, go up the Guiers Mort valley towards St-Pierre-de-Chartreuse. After the tunnels, at the Pont St-Pierre bend, continue straight on towards La Correrie and stop at the next bridge, the Pont des Allemands (car park).
(S/E). Take Chemin de St-Bruno to the north and join the road coming from La Correrie to the monastery.
(1) Turn left and continue along the road until you reach the entrance to the monastery.
(2) Continue along the road and, after the sawmill, do not follow it to the left towards Chartroussette, but take the gravel forest road opposite, which climbs more steeply and then passes along a reservoir. 100 m further on is the Reservoir crossroads.
(3) Turn left onto Chemin du Pavé and follow it up through the forest to pass the Crête des Rochers de la Fitole ridge and continue on level ground to the Billon forest road (signposted Habert de Billon Aval).
(4) Turn right onto this road, then turn left to climb towards the clearly visible Habert de Billon.
(5) Take the path on the right, heading north, and after 100 m, turn left to rejoin the forest in the thalweg towards Aliénard. The path then climbs up the right bank, then the left bank of the stream, which is quite steep. When you leave the forest, do not head for the pass, but turn right to reach a grassy ridge, the lowest point of the Aliénard ridge, which is easily accessible on snowshoes.
(6) After enjoying the scenery, descend towards the Col de l'Aliénard.
(7) Descend the valley on the right, to the north, until you reach a flat area where the route veers slightly to the right. Leave the tracks to the left towards La Ruchère and continue straight ahead to climb back up to the Col du Tracol.
(8) Switch to the eastern slope and descend to the Pré-Gervet junction.
(9) Continue straight ahead to climb back up to Col de la Ruchère. Enjoy the sweeping views.
(10) Take the path on the right, south-west of level, slightly downhill before climbing back up to the threshold leading to the top of the Prairie de la Folie.
(11) Descend this long meadow until you reach Habert de Billon, which you passed earlier.
(5) Continue opposite, south into the valley and then into the forest via Essart Morin to reach the Chartroussette meadows. Continue until you reach the Chartroussette forest road.
Alternative: you can also descend from Billon via the Billon forest road, which arrives further downstream and is easier to follow if you have difficulty with orientation or visibility.
(12) Take the forest road on the left and at the next crossroads, descend a track on the right which leads to the pretty Habert de Chartroussette.
(13) Descend the path that runs along the edge of the forest and the fence of the mountain pasture until you reach a path coming from the right.
(14) Take it to the left and descend in stages, making a wide curve to the Pont des Allemands. (S/E)
