Circular route in the Rambouillet Forest towards Poigny-La-Forêt from Gazeran

Start from the car park in front of Gazeran town hall.

(S/E) Go round the village hall on the right and, behind it, leave the street and take the path into the woods of Gazeran. Cross the stream via the footbridge and head right. Follow the Guéville stream, cross a road and take the next footbridge on the right. Ignore a path on the left and join the D906.

(1) Cross with care and follow the road opposite; at Le Gâteau, reach an inverted Y-junction (^GR®1). Turn sharply left onto Chemin de la Vallée Drouin and walk a few metres.

(2) At the bend to the left, leave the tarmac and take the small path on the right through the woodland.

(3) At the top of the hill, leave the^GR® which branches off to the right and continue along the small path opposite. Join the^GR® after 200 m and continue to the left.

(4) At the Carrefour du Bois Dieu, turn right and head towards the Chêne de la Pocqueterie. Continue along the^GR®, cross a track, ignore a turn-off to the right and carry on to the Carrefour des Rabières.

(5) Leave the^GR® and take the^PR® to the left onto the Route Forestière des Rabières for approximately 1.2 km.

(6) At the cross-track, turn right, cross the Guesle, cross the D107 and climb up to the Carrefour de la Licorne.

(7) Turn right and continue to follow the^PR®. At the star junction, take the second right-hand fork, then turn right immediately and follow the Petit Étang Neuf.

(8) Continue to follow the^PR® as it curves in a wide semicircle to the left and carry on until you reach the Carrefour d'Angennes.

(9) Leave the^PR® by turning right onto the Route Forestière de la Jubellerie.

(10) At the La Croix Jouanne crossroads, rejoin the^GR®1on the left, which heads off diagonally, and continue straight on until you reach the Carrefour du Roi de Rome.

(11) Follow the^GR®1Cto the right onto Route Drouin, which leads to Poigny-La-Forêt. Cross a road, then, after passing under a porch between the houses, first turn left then right to reach the town hall.

(12) Continue along Route de l'École, then turn left onto Route du Vieux Château. At the left-hand bend after the water tower, continue straight on along the dirt track. Ignore a path branching off to the right at the edge of the woods and enter the forest.

(13) At the Carrefour de Poigny, turn left.

(14) At the Carrefour des Longues Mares, continue straight ahead then turn right at the Carrefour Sédillot. Join the Route Forestière du Vau Larcher.

(15) Follow it to the left for 200 m until you reach the D936. Cross the road and follow it for 100 m to the left.

(16) Join the^GR® on the right (just before a sign warning of wildlife crossing for 500 m) onto the Chemin de Poigny. At the first four-way junction, continue straight ahead, then turn right at the cross-track.
Then follow the cycle path to the right for a few metres before turning left onto the^GR® and heading towards the Étang de Coupe-Gorge.

(17) Continue with the lake on your left, then follow the Route de Coupe-Gorge to the left until you reach the D936.

(18) Cross it and enter the grounds of Rambouillet Castle. Continue straight on for 1 km and, after the gate, turn right, cross a road and take the path opposite. At the car park, turn left and continue to the Guéville gate.

(19) Cross the road, then follow the D906 to the right before quickly taking the small road on the left (^GR®) towards Guéville.

(20) Near the Guéville farm, continue right along the^GR® path lined with thuja hedges. After the small wood, at the top of the climb, leave the^GR® on your right and continue straight ahead. Go down the path to the Gazeran war memorial and turn right towards the town hall (S/E).
