West of Cernay in the Upper Chevreuse Valley

A loop starting from Cernay-la-Ville. Head west towards Le Perray and Vieille-Église. Return via the Rambouillet Forest. 75% of the route is in the forest. Start and finish in the town centre.
The circuit is almost flat (a small descent and climb towards the end), with a little road at the start and end (2 x 1.5 km) and the rest on forest paths. No technical difficulty, but it's not a leisurely ride (not suitable for families), as the paths can be very bumpy (stones, ruts, etc.) but are nevertheless often very beautiful.

Description of the route

Start from the car park in the town centre, at the junction of the D24 and D906.

(S/E) Take the D906 towards Rambouillet, take the cycle path at the exit of La Cernay and join the junction with the D91.

(1) Follow it to the right towards Dampierre, Vaux de Cernay. Continue for about 150 m until you reach the edge of the forest and take the path on the left. This section is quite rough, with stones and ruts. Continue straight ahead for about 2 km until you reach a fork.

(2) Keep right, then go along the farm on your left and continue on the path in front of you. This is a beautiful path along the edge of the forest. At the multiple fork (elevation 172), go right (do not take the clear path on the left) and you will quickly reach a three-way junction.

(3) Leave the signposts and follow the path on the right until you reach the Carrefour du Chêne aux Loups crossroads.

(4) Turn left onto the white lane and you will come to a road.

(5) Cross the road and continue straight ahead. The path is narrow, watch out for holes! Continue straight ahead, cross two roads and reach the edge of the woods with its ditch.

(6) Turn left and follow it to the next bridge.

(7) Take it, cross to the other side and take the path across the field until you reach a fork, about 50 metres before the end of the field on your right.

(8) Take the small single track slightly to the left, through the ferns, and at the end, continue left until you reach a forest lane.

(9) Turn right (watch out for ruts), cross a forest road and reach the next fork before the railway line (the passage under the line is flooded).

(10) Take the path on the left and continue straight ahead until you reach the cycle path.

(11) Follow it to the left, leave the Forêt du Pâtis and arrive at the first houses in Rambouillet, at the corner of No. 73.

(12) Turn left, then follow the cycle path that starts on the left a little further on. Follow it to a crossroads at the corner of a fence with a car park behind it.

(13) Turn onto the path on the right between the fields. At the next two forks, keep left, then right (watch out for fallen trees) and arrive at the Étang de la Tour.

(14) Cross the dyke, then follow the access road to the car park until the end.

(15) Cross the road, taking care as traffic travels fast! Continue straight ahead, cross a lane and continue to the next junction.

(16) Turn right onto Route du Parc de la Verrerie and continue straight ahead until you reach Route des Vingt Quatre Pieds, which starts diagonally to the left.

(17) Follow it and continue straight ahead until thesecond four-way intersection.

(18) Turn right (Route de la Grande Brèche), then left and right at the next intersections before reaching another intersection.

(19) Turn left onto Route du Puits d'Auvergne and descend to a road.

(20) Make a right-left turn and take the path that climbs to the edge of the woods.

(21) Turn right, go around the farm on the left and continue on the asphalt road until you reach the intersection.

(22) Take the road opposite and, at the D906, turn right after a few metres and rejoin the route you were already on.

(1) Continue straight ahead and follow the same route back to the car park in the town centre (S/E).

Notes

Be careful, as some trees may block the path.

If you take the time to look up, you can enjoy some beautiful paths, some lined with magnificent oak trees.
The route offers several forest landscapes, a few nice single tracks, and a few less interesting paths, but they don't last very long.

Allow 2 hours without a break.

You can extend the loop in the Rambouillet Forest by continuing on to Clairefontaine, for example (+10 km).
