Circular route along the banks of the Vègre and Sarthe rivers

An easy walk that can be done on foot or by bike. The first part, which is less pleasant, is in full sun, so bring a hat if it is hot. Views of pretty manors and a very pleasant walk along the Sarthe.

Description of the walk

You can park along the path leading to the LGV access.

(S/E) Follow the road that runs alongside the LGV line towards Avoise. There is not much traffic, but the road is in full sun. You will arrive at an intersection near Rabottière.

(1) Join theGR®®336and turn right towards the hamlets of Les Monforts and La Sicardiere.

(2) Continue straight ahead, ignoring the turnings on the right and left, and take the dead-end road. Arrive at Marigné.
(3) Leave the access to the Vègre River on your left and join the Sarthe.

(4) At the junction with the Sarthe, turn right and follow the river, following the red and whiteGR®® markings, to the car park at Le Jarossay.

(5) Turn right onto the path that goes uphill. The climb is steep but not long. Join a road.

(6) At the intersection, first turn right then left to take the path that leads to La Martiniere.

(7) Follow the D22 on the right. Be careful here, as there is a lot of traffic on this road, to return to the car park (S/E).

A pleasant walk with pretty country lanes, crossing fields, countryside and riverbanks. I enjoyed it.

I'm not sure about one section: did I take the right path near the Vègre or did I take a parallel path for a few hundred metres?

In any case, I did the route without GPS. I found it very clear with the map and explanations. However, I am not an expert at unmarked hiking.

I completed it in 1 hour 30 minutes. I usually walk faster than the times indicated, even on official marked trails.

Thank you for the route.
